POLL: Do you like Cul de Sacs?

I live in one and I like it as it does feel safe and I know that there has been very few burglaries round here compared to other streets. The kids on my street play outside a lot too.
Too much of a lack of privacy, people seeing everything you do. Too familiar. I don't mind the bigger ones though.
She often has around 20-25 kids playing in there, and running over her lawn, looking into the lounge window etc, and it's very claustrophobic, with the houses all kind of looking in at one another, and very little privacy.
The lack of privacy aspect does annoy me at times, when I take my rubbish or recycling out it feels like I have lots of eyes on me!:DHOUSE MOVE FUND £16,000/ £19,000

I am not a massive fan! I hate the small ones too, for the reasons listed by 115K, Jaylee and Lily. But the issue (for me) with the large ones, is that if you live in one of the first houses in, you get the traffic from the 50-65 houses in there whizzing past you all the time. (Because they only have one way in and one way out.) Where I live now, is a through road, but not a main one to anywhere - It has about 40 houses and an exit out each end, and we get people who live here, going out in different directions, so we don't get that many people coming past in their car.
Cul de sacs can be OK, but having lived in 2, that had 14 houses, and 55 houses, I would now much rather live in a 'through' road, but a quiet one that doesn't lead to anywhere, so people don't come down it unless they live here IYSWIM.0 -
We've lived in two, the first one had 19 houses, 5 terraced and 14 detached. We lived at the end (Where the traffic didn't come in) and the children used to play there which didn't bother us at all as our son was one of them lol. It was newly built when we bought it, most of the other houses had children who played out too. So it was quite nice.
We now live in a rural cul de sac which is about two miles long with about 8 houses, I like this too as we are a lot older and like the quiet life. lol0 -
my friend lives in a cul de sac with four houses .All the houses have the same landlord . Last week the landlord called and asked who was the disabled woman who had visited .The old man across the road had told the landlord about her having difficulty getting out of the car.
Don't mean to sound rude, but I'm not sure what your point is.
Are you saying the LL calling to ask about the woman was a good thing, or bad?You didn't, did you? :rotfl::rotfl:0 -
I live in a single lane cul de sac with plenty of on-street parking and no houses directly opposite so loads of privacy.
It is a fantastically quiet street with hardly any footfall other than the few residents that live there. No children play out in the street as it's too narrow so they keep to their gardens or the nearby park. Neighbours are all friendly.
Before I moved here, I lived in a street where the same core of residents double parked and blocked others in, tooted their car horns at all hours and shouted up at each other's windows. One corner of the street was a regular fly tipping zone. The main street that bisected it was awash with screaming, singing drunks and had a noisy man hole cover that made a racket every time a car drove over it.
Cul de sacs are fab. Now moving to a new street where there is similar traffic control to prevent it becoming a rat run and you can hear a pin drop.
I lived in a quiet one way street in London but local drivers would routinely ignore the no entry sign and whizz up the road the wrong way to shave that important 1 or 2 minutes off waiting at traffic lights near the high street...0 -
As aunty says ^^^
I like cul de sacs, but ones that are longer, with fewer properties in. Not the closed-in ones, that have 14-16 properties all squished together where it causes issues with parking, and privacy.
We live in one that is on a long(ish) road, and has a mix of 2 bed homes and bungalows and a few 3 bed homes, (about 25-30 homes,) and they are sparsely spaced, so there is none of the issues that there are with little closed in cul de sacs.
So I went for the 'I like them, but the larger ones' choice. (The third option.)0 -

Yes, happenend a few years ago.
Also a month or two back, Police followed uninsured driever up here, too. Saves petrol on a big chase around town, I guess.
