Lack of technical people on marketplace?

We have offered a range dependent on experience around 28k0

I think you're probably at least £10k short of the market rate for a senior networks guy. Can you offer the other things Pennywise mentions? If so, I think you really need to talk them up in your advert.0

That is way under market rate - no wonder nobody wants to work for you for what is a pittance considering the location.
OP, change your thinking - get someone in to move boxes (as you say it is half the job, and no tech is going to do that), and get someone in for your tech side. Both could be part time or flex working.0 -

No-one's going to be offering their services for unpacking boxes for such a pittance wage. Offer something decent, at least 50k is the market value.Martin has asked me to tell you I'm about to cut the cheese, pull my finger.0 -

As I am obviously out of touch, let me take a straw poll.
What do you think a senior (ie 5+ years experience) technical support (phone support) person should be on salary wise, in your area of the country?0 -
I am not sure you know what do you actually really want/need?
Phone support is not something you mentioned in your original post - I was under impression you were looking for an engineer but as now you mention phone support you are looking for a helpdek operator?
Where I have worked in the past few years those are different roles, require different qualification/experience and demand different salaries.
You mentioned senior technical person first (with boxes thrown in) and now tak about phone support?
Perhaps you need someone's help with writing an ad AND a job spec? As I am afraid you seem very confused yourself...0 -
Some helpdesk job adverts here - have a look, if it is helpdesk position you want to fill
http://www.cwjobs.co.uk/JobSearch/Results.aspx?Keywords=helpdesk
and then - 1st? 2nd? 3rd line? or all 3 in one - from taking the call to actually fixing the problem?0 -
For first line support, I'd say £28k is probably plenty. From your first post, I thought you were looking for third line support - and I don't think £28k is anywhere near enough for that.
Apologies if I've got the wrong end of the stick, but have you drafted your job advert to match the skills of somebody who is leaving? An old employer once did that when I left - whilst it's flattering, you don't need a clone of your existing guy.0
