Can I use this CC to make purchases on??

Hey MSE'ers. Hope you're all having a good weekend.

So on one of my cards, its Halifax 0%, limit of £1000 currently with £110 available on it. It was for an initial balance transfer, and i've slowly been hacking away at it.

My question is, can I use this to make purchases on? I have the pin for it, but want to be 100% sure I wont get charged a lot if I do!

I did find that it says this on my latest online statement:
Q00dGPJ.png

0% for all other amounts, does this include purchases made directly onto the card?

Thanks in advance :T

If I don't clear that spend by the end of the month for example?

    Why?
They do offer a card with 0% on both BTs (28 months) and purchases (12 months), and the OP's one says "0% for all other amounts" except cash advances.

    Ignore this OP.

As quoted in your OP you don't pay interest on purchases (during the free period)
  • I read it that the card is not a new one - purchases would have had to be done within any promotional period.
OP doesn't say how far down this period he is on.

IMO it is never a good idea to mix interest free and purchases on cards.

OP has said everything except cash withdrawals is 0% interest...quoted directly from their latest statement.

Halifax's payment order* allocates to purchases before balance transfers (all interest rates being equal), so any purchase they make now will be repaid before the current 0% BT balance.

OP, if you haven't paid the purchases balance before it's 0% end date, you will not be able to avoid some interest being charged.

You can't have "read it" or you would have seen the OP guote from his "latest statement" as I and all others did

It seems you were wanting to post your "opinion" (which you can of course however irrelevant it is) but gave it as a (false) fact unhelpful to the question the thread is about.

The only problem I have of course is that OP has not come back with any further information.
We do not know how many months are left for purchases on 0%.

There's no need for the OP to come back is there?

They took (presumably) a £950 BT (max allowed at 95%).
The min payments are 1%, so just under £10 a month.
    They've so far repaid £60 so they have £110 available (£1,000 - £950 + £60 = £110).
So they're around 6-7 months in, and STILL have 0% on purchases, according to their statement.
My guess, based on the above, is that it's a 13/13 or a 15/15 month card, ie 0% on both purchases and BTs for over a year.
My 'guess' is based on the fact that Halifax cards (around 6 months ago) were either, say, 28/3 months or same on both.

So, the OP asked 2 questions:

    1. Do I have 0% on purchases? and

    2. Will I get charged a lot?

The answer to Q1 is "yes" (because the statement says so!), and the answer to Q2 is "it depends on how quickly you can clear the £110" (because from now on all payments go towards reducing the purchases balance before the BT balance).
