O/S Daily Thread Friday 12th September

Options
This is an “over the garden fence” type thread where we chat about everything Old Style and maybe a little bit more. It’s a great, inspiring and motivating thread we start each day to discuss what Old Style things we’re going to do today or what we’ve achieved already. Everyone’s welcome, please do come in, put your feet up (although check the fence hasn’t just been painted first!) and join us for an Old Style natter. The more the merrier!

As this is the Old Style Board, it would be appreciated if posts could include some Old Style content. Please be aware that many people may have small screens, or slow internet connections, so please don’t post large pictures, or clip art – links are preferred. When you make a post, if you feel like giving it a title, that will help others that don’t have the time to read everything skim through the thread quickly but if not it's not a problem. Please do not start a new daily thread before you go to bed at night because this often leaves things confusing with two daily threads live at the same time. The idea is that a member would start each new daily thread after they get up in the morning.

Some people who chat here like to try to answer everyone. Don’t feel you have to though, a general “hi everyone, hope everyone’s well” is fine.

  • Good morning everyone :)

It's Friday and I feel ill, I have DH's lurgy and he is still coughing so I know what's to come, Throat and head are killing me and all I want to do is go back to sleep. I just wanted the weekend to come and now I just know I am going to feel awful all weekend. Waaaaaaaah :(

Am so terribly sad about the dog's home in Manchester, I can't believe how cruel people can possibly be.

Sorry this is just a moany post, have just read everyone's news and can't even remember any of it, I am not being a good friend :o

Well wishes for all sick people and pets and hugs for those that need or just want them. Keep well and safe and have a super day.

    Morning everyone

Birthday wishes to those celebrating a birthday, hope you have a great day x

Hugs and get well wishes to those that want/need them.

Now getting light, dry underfoot and not windy, seems like we may get a dry day, hoping for some sunshine too.

DH up and gone to work stupid early. DS1 now getting ready to leave for work.

Dinner last night was an easy chicken and ham kievs, chips, beans and salad for the menfolk, I had fishcakes, jacket potato and veg, ice cream for those that wanted some. I have several options for tonight’s dinner and haven’t decided on what yet.

On line shop arrived, everything included but some things on short dates, finding this a bit of annoyance as every week there’s been some items on short dates, some of the items yesterday were dates for today. At the moment I don’t have a lot of choice other than giving the menfolk a list and the money, that’s fine for a couple of bits but not for a main shop, so I’ll just have to stick with it, although I do now have good stocks, so I may be able to get away with a much smaller shop and sending them with a list and the money, but I won’t be able to do that every week from now until I’m back on my feet as my stocks won’t last.

Yesterday I managed to get the cooker top cleaned, I just put some spray cleaner on it and left it whilst I sat on a chair and did a couple of jobs I could do sitting down, then just cleaned the hob. It’s really good, it’s a good make and must have some sort of coating on it as if you spill/boil a pan over on it doesn’t take that much work to get it off and it doesn’t mark/stain either.

Today I have a few little jobs in mind that I can do steadily, so will tackle those.

Have a good Friday everyone x

    Take care x

    Keep safe and well x

  • Morning all
I've dropped hubby at work, been to fill the car up with petrol for the weekend, the washing is on the line & I'm off to work soon.
I didn't get ant sewing done last night as we had visitors arrive at 6ish & they stayed 'til 9.
It was nice to see them, they bought their dog with them, she;s so funny, she's in the door before I've even got it properly open, she went straight to the living room, looked around & then came over to me & looked at me intently.
I pointed to the shelf where I'd put the soft toy she always plays with & she went to get it.
I have a lot of soft toys around because of the grandchildren, but she knows this one is hers & she never touches any of the others.
Time I set off to work.
    Have a good day everyone.
    Hugs Hester
    Chin up, Titus out.

TTFTM and RR - hope you feel better soon.

Been up since 5 something so have made some sunshine cookies and pancakes. DD has been down and devoured some pancakes already, the builders can have the rest.

Came back from work yesterday for 2 minutes to see the builders, went to the hospice then home for 30 seconds to pick DD up and went to C0stco as the builder said they have good wooden flooring. They have but I couldn't get it all in the car so he will go back over the weekend to pick it up for me. Had tea there, a baked pot and chilli which was really tasty but so blinking big! Eventually got home about 9.

I will make the squash and beef chilli tonight now, salad for lunch but must stop somewhere on my way to work to get some lettuce.

Hope you all have a good day, take care. XX

Morning folks :hello: - yesterday's cool start to the morning turned into another lovely day. We've had a really good week here - quite a change for this time of year.

Hope all you 'poorlies' are feeling a bit better today - HSblinky_ani_bearhugs.gif for you.

    HSbestwishes1.gif for anybody who's celebrating today - hope it's a good one :D.

TTFTM- thanks for starting today's thread.
nmlc - Did you contact the supermarket about those dates on your items? I'd be letting them know - in no uncertain terms - that the purpose for doing it online was 'due to ill-health' and not being able to go personally, so it was paramount that you needed 'good use-by dates' on all fresh items. They need to know when they get it wrong - and their 'in-store shopping staff' need instructing in the correct manner of shopping for 'customer satisfaction'. As a valued customer, you deserve better service ;).
RR - hope that Retirement Village is suitable for your mum - thinking about you both and hoping that it brings you 'peace of mind' about her wellbeing.
dumpling - so sad to hear about that extremely rude person on the bus. You don't deserve to hear comments from people like that. WD you on having a great day with your grandchild and keep strong :T.
Hester - Have a good day in work :).
camelot - that was a very early start to the day, and so much done already - wd you :T.

Good day in the CS yesterday, though we weren't very busy at all :(. Think perhaps that some people are still a 'bit down on funds' following kids going back to school. Should pick-up again in the next couple of weeks. Got myself a lovely Water-proof Rucksack that will be extremely useful on holiday in Scotland next year. The one I'm using is only an ordinary back-pack and not waterproof at all :(. Also picked up a book on 'Kitchen Gardening' and 'How to set out a Vegetable Plot' :j.

Got a phone-call from DS1 around 4.00pm to say he was on his way back home from working 'down sarf' for the day, that he had a 'petrol strimmer' on his vehicle and he would be calling in to attack my back garden :j. He's been promising all summer that he would 'sort it for me' as that part of the garden can't be reached with an extension lead and my own strimmer. He had a work colleague with him and they 'really got stuck in' - friend 'strimmed everything' and DS1 went over it all with a petrol lawn-mower. They were :rotfl: at the massive, hillocky tufts of grass that were left by the so-called 'team of landscapers' (contactors) sent by the Housing Association.

Afterwards I served 'my two heroes' with Cheese and Ham Rolls followed by Cakes and Toasted/Buttered Tea-Cakes .

Then got a phone call from dgd1 asking if she could stay for the night - hardly seen her since she left school - till then she was here for at least one night every week . She's growing up fast - but still likes to visit her 'Narnie' to escape from her younger siblings.

    Plans for today include:
    • Expecting a visit this morning from engineer for Annual Gas Safety Inspection.
    • Visit HomeBargains and B&M Bargains to see what bulbs they've got in at the moment.
    • Get out into the garden to see if I can get bulbs planted out - didn't manage to do that earlier in the week.
    • Savoury Mince, Mashed Potato and Green Cauli for evening meal tonight. Just need to get the mince out of the freezer :j, peel spuds and prep cauli.
    • Might have a go at those 'custard cookies' - they sound scrummy .

Hope you all have a great day of OS-ing. Speak again later - luv Lilyplonk xxx
  • Morning all :)

The worst thing about the kids going back to school is that I always seem to be nagging them to 'get up', 'hurry up', 'get dressed', 'get a move on'. I don't want to nag I just want them to do what they need to do each morning so that they are ready to leave at the set time.

Tonight is an easy night as my lot are having chip shop :) I will be having soup of some kind as chip shop + gall bladder = pain!

Hope you all have a good day. TTFTM and redruby I hope you are soon feeling better :)

    :hello Good morning
Glad to be at home today. I feel like I have been on a busman's holiday. 1 day at MIL house and x2 days painting a room in our son's flat. All good company.

Went to Tesco yesterday. I have a routine. Look at the reduced area's first and then get what is on my shopping list and pay.

I saw the pyrex dish being advertised with buy 3 pounds worth of lasagna sauce. Picked up the dish to look. It is a white pot dish. No! I prefer my glass pyrex dish. So put it down.

Bought more cake making things = vanilla essence, walnuts and chocolate buttons for decorating. Well stocked up again. I bought the x2 flour and icing sugar , b.day candles last shop.

Anyone tasted the Hovis seed sensations loafs?
I started sampling it for Orchard a wile ago. It is delicious.
I bought several loafs on YS last night.

I think I am becoming a big fan of Tesco's own range products. i seem to be putting a lot more into my trolley.
value pan scourers 40p, bubble bath 70p, jam 75p, marmalade 59p, washing up liquid 80p, grated cheese 3.50, cooking bacon 80p and some frozen things.

Did anyone watch the Tonight program last night. OH commented - OH, it is just like you! It showed several people saving the pennies in different ways. A lady was shown coupon shopping.

    Have a thrifty day :)

Good morning, a quick one from me.

Granda decided he wanted a big dog, about springer size, but he's not very mobile on his feet, we eventually decided on a jack russel. Not the one of my choosing but a lovely one none the less. So so sad about the dogs home in Manchester ttmtf, it brought a tear to my eye. DB had 2 dogs dumped in his garden over night with their bed. He already has 2, so no room for them. The dog warden can't get them until Monday. The world can be a cruel place.

Off to the sanctuary after the school run. Lillyplonk it could be a case of parents not having much money, I've forked out £40 this week for technology, books and trips. I hope these extra spends stop soon.

Need to get a move on, chat soon
