Long Lasting Foundation?

I have Estee Lauder DoubleWear Light at the moment, which is great for coverage and stays put but I am pretty sure it's breaking me out.
I have dry/normal skin so don't really like matte foundations as it empthaises this. The DW Light seems to be alright with my skin but the orginal DW is to heavy and matte. Anyway basically am looking for an alternative that's long lasting but won't break me out, any suggestions people?

Have you tried a primer? They tend to help foundations stay on far better than any foundation alone. I can recommend Urban Decay but know of others who swear by Smashbox and Mac, they are best applied after your SPF and moisturiser have sunk in and your skin is dry (unless your using Mac as they have primers with SPF in them).
Apply the primer over dry skin then apply foundation straight afterwards, they have the added benefit of smoothing out dry skin which foundations alone tend not to do- or worse (I know this as I have very dry skin) your skin becomes drier and flakes over time if you wear foundation at all frequently (more than once or twice a week) and you end up with flakey patches which the foundation sticks to.0 -
Yeah i've tried about every primer going. The help a little with lasting but not much. It's weird as you think because I don't have oily skin that makeup would last longer. However it doesn't seem to slide off but more sink in. It goes patchy after a few hours. Its only when am busy rushing about in work or so on. Most days most foundations last on me.
I look after my skin and am only young and only suffer couple breakouts with hormones but generally have clear skin.
Maybe am touching my face in work not realising and rubbing it off. EL DW is pretty budge proof even if you do touch your face.0 -
I have also got really dry skin and very fussy skin- if I use anything beyond a fluid or gel like texture, I get spots, if I use anything too thin it wont moisturise as my skin is really dry...it is difficult trying to find what to wear, the primer thing seems to work for me, but otherwise I can get away with mixing a fluid foundation with a moisturiser (making my own BB cream sort of thing) and then adding more in patches on the days I don't use the primer, could be worth keeping a BB cream or similar with you to apply here and there as the day goes on?
Concealers can also be useful, if your foundation rubs off the concealer normally wont.0 -
Facefinity three in one concealer primer and foundation from max factor is my go to for everyday use and doesn't break the bank cost wise either.

I know it sounds daft but I got this tip from a website and it really works.
If your happy with the foundation itself. Just mist your face with a light spraying of hairspray.
I use Elnet and before anyone asks, I don't break out in spots because of it.This is a system account and does not represent a real person. To contact the Forum Team email forumteam@moneysavingexpert.com0 -
Try mixing the DW with moisturiser, 80-20 for foundation works well usually but you can choose your own mix for what suits your skin on any particular day, also nothing beats zinc tablets (chelated) to keep skin clear long term.0

I've used liquid foundation for years and never had an issue with breakouts.
Thanks for the recommendation of Facefinity by Maxfactor but I bought it a while back and hated it. Ah it was horrible on my skin, I bought two bottles as it was 3 for 2 and had to throw them both away.
Am just wondering if it's actually biotin breaking me out. I been taken biotin for hair growth last month and that's when i've noticed the breakouts. However because i've only just purchased dw light this month I thought it was that. I still feel like it could be the dw light as I tend to break out at the end of the week which is when I wear it and then it clears up throughout the week when I don't.
Maybe I should stop taken biotin and see if that helps.0 -
It probably is the DW, it does it too me too
but that wont stop me wearing it, they key is wearing it either watered down or not all the time, as you've already realised, have you tried Revlon Colourstay, the oily skin one?, its very similar to DW but not as harsh on the skin, you could try alternating the two, chances are its the perfume they use, they cold just leave it out and we would all be much better.

Colourstay do a dry/normal one as well wonder if thats as long lasting.
Am sure DW doesn't use perfume I don't think its non-comedogenic so shouldn't give spots.
I just think maybe the combo of biotin and the heaviness of even the dw light compared to my usual foundations is causing breakouts.
I also do use a setting spray which is the MAC one.0
