laptop won't load up please help!

    doing a chkdsk and its saying most of the segments are unreadable! does this mean its b0ggered? its been going for 2 hours already and will probably take all night!!!

    Yes, it sounds near to failure so I would let it finish and then retrieve any important files using the Knoppix CD and put them on the D: drive.

    Did the Dell diagnostics report any errors?

    no, it wouldn't let me run it properly, I can't remember what it said, I did the colour test? then it said something about needing the cd! I put the msg on here but my internet cut out so lost it!!!

    why would it be like this? Has it just had enough? Is it just a rubbish laptop?!

    No, just the hard drive has failed or is on the verge of failure. Rescue any data from it if possible and replace it with a new drive and install Windows.

    Ha i am a genius.

    My first post said it was hardware failue and it was the HDD that was knackered

    Well i didnt use the word knackered. Begun with F ended in ED.

    Anyways, you can recover your docs a few ways by either plugging the 2.5 inch drive str8 to a desktop PC or via an adapter or USB enclosure.
