Well, one year one since the original post and I'm delighted to note that I am on my way!! :j :j I'm finally getting my hen so I can tick that one off

Never thought I'd achieve that one this soon
always thought it would be a sometime-in-the-future-different-location spectrum!
Not very successful on the fruit/veg/herbs front but it's still on my list :rotfl:
Has anyone else achieved anything from their list?
Has your list altered either decreased or increased, if so, how?~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

Thanks Queenie for reviving this thread. My chickens are on their way, I've bought the sewing machine, and I've levelled my cooker. I just need to start using the sewing machine and I've achieved all last years goals

Time to set some new ones I think.Organised people are just too lazy to look for things
F U Fund currently at £2500 -
Living off hubby's wages :T
Selling my handmade cards :T
Bought a female guinea pig, I think she's pregnant already :j I'll probably end up keeping the babies, when the time comes I just know I won't be able to part with them so can someone lend me £42.50 to get the daddy 'done'?
Moggins if you have too many eggs I'll buy them from you
Bulletproof0 -
Troo how about a barter system
I'll swop eggs for cards?

now i have finally moved back to cornwall (although a long drive to work)
can have a dream list:
chickens and sheep/cow (maybe bees)
own fruit and veg (next year - house first)
already make my own candles but would like to make my own soap etc
find husband a different job so only one of us is away all the time
find somewhere to sell my jams/pickles etc
have green electricity we have made ourselves (wind/solar)0 -
Queenie - I bet you can't wait to get your chicken (and she will be so happy to have been 'rescued')
My changes have all been minor ones but have nevertheless added up to a great deal. I now have a breadmaker and never buy shop bread any more. The slow cooker was another addition which is in very frequent use. My cleaning kit now only comprises of vinegar, Stardrops, bicarb and microfibre cloths. I cook everything from scratch now as well. I am quite sure that none of this would have happened if I hadn't discovered OS so thanks to all of you for your ideas, inspiration and encouragement - my life is certainly better for it! Oh, and the PIN money - that made a big difference as well.:T0 -
Pretty much OS with everything, but my long term goal is bees, I love bees!!!
We live on the very very edge of a small town with fields to front and back, I heard today that the one in front could be 'developed' in the next 5 years:(
This would be awful for us, so I would like to think we could move but it is way too expensive around here for country property, so 'long term' I don't know what we can do.
Queenie - can I ask why you are only getting one chook? wouldn't it like a companion as naturally they live in groups? Of course if it's a rescue hen then it will be happier anyway - just wondering
yours

moggins - :T :T :T Excellent!! I really should try and make a trip over to you and take you and your sewing machine on a tour of discovery
:rotfl:
troo - :T Woohoo!!! WTG!
ocemeer - best of British in achieving your goals

jaybee - :T :T :T As you say, all those small changes actually add up to quite a significant difference! Excellent :T (Note to self: must update PMS thread tomorrow when brain cells are less sluggish
)
doddsy - wishing you well in your bee goal. :j :j :j (Pity about the development rumour
Try not to let it affect your enthusiasm and determination: where there's a will, there's a way).
As for my solo hen - she hasn't thrived with the group she is currently housed with, she's a victim of pecking-order-domestic-violence and clearly isn't an assertive sort. My friend has since seperated her (pending me getting her accommodation sorted) and she is now perking up and doing so much better. So, she seems to be one of those personalities who will thrive in her own company. She'll be petted and loved and no doubt thoroughly spoiled by my boys. I do agree that generally they shouldn't be kept singly, but in Silky's case, I bow to my friends greater experience - and having seen her in her current environment and knowing her origins, I feel confident she will be one happy hen
Any indication that she is feeling a tad isolated .. simple solution ... get another
At least that way, when it comes to pecking order, she will (hopefully) see herself a Queen Silky of the Hen House and will integrate any newbies to her routines and territories - or perhaps I'm romancing the whole idea? We shall see. But yes, you voiced my own initial concerns so I know exactly why you are asking; valid point! ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

Queenie - sounds like she will be a well loved chook:DWe must not, in trying to think about how we can make a big difference, ignore the small daily differences we can make which, over time, add up to big differences that we often cannot foresee.
