Honda Jazz Warranty Advice

Hello,
I was hoping for some advice/tips on a situation my mother has with her Honda Jazz
It's the Honda Jazz with the 1.4 engine and the 7 speed automatic gearbox.
I will try and be brief:
The car was bought from new from Cardiff Honda, it's on a UK 55 plate, so about 9 years old, with 70k miles on the clock.
About 2 years after purchasing the car it developed a "grumbling" noise in the gearbox when pulling away from a standing start.
We took the car back under Warranty, and after some arguments with Honda Cardiff, they agreed to replace the transmission fluid in the gearbox. They also extended the warranty from 5 to 7 years.
The car was returned to use and it did appear to improve the problem but not completely solve it. We were told there was nothing else Honda would do under warranty.
Fast forward to this week. The problem, over the last few months, has started to return and it's now at the stage where my mother is worried to drive the car.
The car where we normally have the car serviced suggested we contacted a local gearbox specialist.
I ran them yesterday and within 30 seconds of the conversation starting the chap at the garage said, "yes, that's a known fault, there was a recall for that problem. Over the last few years we have replaced about 7 gearboxes which Honda have paid for..."
So, there was a recall apparently. We were never notified! My mother has lived in the same address since 1971 - so no change of address.
Anyway, the situation is that now my 74 year old mother is too worried to drive the car and doesn't have the £1000 quoted to replace the gearbox.
I appreciate the car has 70k miles on the clock and is now about 9 years old. Albeit, fully serviced.
But, does my mother have any grounds to ask Honda to replace the gearbox? They appear to have acknowledged that there is a known fault by issuing the recall?
My mother is not even in the position to be able to part-ex the car without losing substantial value due to the gearbox problem. Anyone who drove it would notice it immediately. And to be honest, we would not want to sell it to someone without them being aware of it.
Can anyone give me their thoughts on whether Honda have any responsibility in this issue?
Any help would be very much appreciated!
Thanks
Trev

Have you any definite proof of the recall other than some guy on the end of the phone? Maybe asking Honda if there was one would be a good start.
Not all recalls are communicated to all owners, it could have just been a technical bulletin type thing where it is recommended but won't necessarily affect all cars with a range so will be done on an 'as and when' basis.
Think you need to be asking the people who will make the decision (Honda) rather than asking for speculations from people on here.0 -

No recall according to this

No, I don't have definite proof. Except that they did the first repair FOC under the warranty and that the garage is a well known gearbox specialist. Not all recalls are communicated to all owners, it could have just been a technical bulletin type thing where it is recommended but won't necessarily affect all cars with a range so will be done on an 'as and when' basis.
Now you mention it - I do remember, when it went into Honda, they mentioned something about a "Technical Bulletin" - I wonder how I can track that number down...Think you need to be asking the people who will make the decision (Honda) rather than asking for speculations from people on here.
I have contacted Honda UK this morning and they have "escalated it" and given me reference number saying someone will contact me within 3 days.
I suppose my question really relates to whether Honda has any responsibility as they appear to have acknowledged it as a know fault?
Thanks for your reply!!

Quick update...
I appear to have tracked down the technical bulletin - it's:
Technical Service Bulletin [Number: HUK000000001117]

To save reading, this is what the guy said:
"Apparently, this fault with the jazz cvt gearbox has a warranty extension applied to it by Honda giving 7yrs or 100k whichever comes first, this is covered in a Technical Service Bulletin [Number: HUK000000001117] which clarifies the situation, ALL CVT-7 jazz`s with chassis build code GD1 from 02,03,04,05,06 are included in this extended warranty, it covers as a first measure flushing the gearbox & if that doesn’t work then replacement of the clutch with the modified version."
Good to find the technical bulletin number...
Does this help me at all though?

Did the problem occur before the car hit 7 years old? Also, has it been to a Honda main dealer, with the fault present, within that 7year/100k mile limit?0

Yes, the problem initially occurred before the 5 year warranty expired. Honda Cardiff replaced the transmission fluid FOC.
But, the problem has gradually come back over time and now, when you pull away from start on a hill the car almost shakes itself apart until it gets up to about 10 mph.
I have just called another gearbox specialist and he also knew of the problem straight away and said that the "starter clutch" is the problem and the gearbox needs taking out and this part replacing with the "new version".

And did it go back to Honda with the same problem again before the 7 years were up after it had been fixed the first time?
If so you could have some recourse (at best you might get a goodwill contribution).
If it didn't, then they've fulfilled the brief of the TB by doing the first fix within the 7 year period and if it hasn't come back then assumed it's been fixed.0 -

Well, Honda dealerships from my experience tend to be pretty good. Maybe head back there explain everything, play the sympathy card and hope for a goodwill gesture. Maybe indicate that they could have a repeat service/mot customer if they can help you out.0 -

Two salient points that people are missing.
One, you didn't buy it from Honda, you bought it from Cardiff Honda, a dealer and your contract is with them.
You seem to indicate that you now have the car serviced by an independent dealer. Their standards can somewhat effect the outcome (if any) of your case.0
