So if I buy a £100 20 year old car with 200,000 miles on it I have every right to demand repair or money back?
With regard to reasonable expectations of such a vehicle, absolutely.
  • I wonder if they are being a bit naughty and claim that you didnt buy the vehicle from them?

Previous owner on the paperwork and all the document there not transferred to a dealer slip.

They claim to know nothing and advertised it for a customer?

  • They advertise themselves as a part-ex centre, so they're definitely a dealer. I suspect they might be being a bit naughty but there's not much I can do really...

  • Remember, the V5 and the receipt are pretty much opposites of each other.

The receipt is an asset, because it proves your bought the car, from who, when and for how much. (The Owner)

The V5 is a liability, because it proves who is responsible for all the fines! (The Keeper)

The previous keeper would be pretty stuffed if you didn't send the V5 off for a change of keeper. He'd be getting all the car's fines until he was able to persuade the DVLA he'd got rid of the car.

In this case the dealer obviously doesn't care because he's not named anywhere and it's not his problem...
