Just asking out of curiosity more than anything
So I bought a cheapy banger from a P/X centre (it's a bit clanky, but sold as seen apparently. Does the job for now though).
They just handed the whole V5 document over to me, and it didn't have them on it anywhere - just the car's last owner. I've sent the V5 off to be transferred to me, but I do have an invoice and receipt. Whenever I've bought a car before, the dealer has been on the V5.
Are they allowed to do this? I thought that the trade centre would appear on the V5 somewhere?

Dealers do this, the paperwork would take too long to send off/receive back before they could sell it - and it'd add an additional owner to the car's history that wasn't a real owner at all.0

Is the yellow "trader" slip still attached?
But, either way, it makes no difference to you whatosever. Just fill in and return the V5C, keep the new keeper green slip.0 -
All the slips were still attached

I know it doesn't really make a difference, it was just a bit odd as it's the first time it has happened to me

So the previous keeper was exposing themselves to risk of tickets etc whilst the car was in the trader's hands. But I'd be very surprised at any trader putting themselves on the V5C as a keeper - that's precisely what the yellow bit's for.heartbreak_star wrote: »All the slips were still attached

Ahh that makes sense then.
Maybe the previous owner got some sort of receipt that could prove they sold it. I didn't have my old car's V5 when I scrapped it - couldn't find it anywhere - so they gave me a huuuuge receipt that I had to copy and send to the DVLA.

They could simply be selling it on commission for the owner. No free lunch, and no free laptop

Yes it is wrong and gives a fair indication of the quality of service you will get from a duff trade-in disperser if you have a problem with a purchase when they can't be bothered getting the minimal paperwork done properly.0

You did not buy the car sold as seen.
Dealers can't do that no matter what they try to tell you or what they make you sign.
If it's not fit for purpose within a reasonable time frame, you have every right to take it back and demand repair of money back.
Hopefully all will continue to be good and it won't come to that though0 -
So if I buy a £100 20 year old car with 200,000 miles on it I have every right to demand repair or money back?0

A reputable dealer would not sell such an old, high milage car to a retail customer exactly for that reason. If it is a private sale between individuals you do not have that same protection.0
