We bought a double oven via gumtree , advertised as "in good working order". Only the bottom oven worked. We did get the money back but had 30 miles of travel costs and had to take the thing to the skip.
qwert, I'm shocked you were selling on a faulty machine - unless you said so in the ad, of course!

    Oh dear.
Buying something from Gumtree, via the back of a white van with Northern Irish plates, in a a car park, and it turned out to be a scam!
A lesson learnt about common sense here I'm afraid.

I'm shocked that anyone would fall for this type of a scam.
  • Buying a 2nd Washing Machine is a big No in my books.
People get rid of them when they start to be troublesome after only a few years of use

English person having a little fun perhaps? We're at the same antics by requesting the "Scotland" board be removed if there is a "Yes" vote.
  • There are shops that sell reconditioned washing machines. Has anybody tried them? They at least have an address you can go back to if you think you have been cheated.

Since many people nowadays just get a new machine at the first sign of trouble, there must be a lot of machines out there which have lots of life still in them after repair of simple problems.

Second hand white good's items can generally be fine but if you're buying second hand at least check them working, either get them installed at your house or check them before purchasing. Do not buy in a random car park.
