Cheater from gumtree

We bought a washing machine from Gumtree yesterday. The guy promised it is 100% working and delivered to B&Q car park. He put it into my car as he said he used his lunch break and had no enough time to deliver to my house. He also gave me his home address and promised me he would post me the original receipt. So I believed him and paid the money.
However after I got it installed, the washing machine does not work properly. It stopped working after turning on for several minutes.
I then tried to call his mobile but was transferred to Vodafone voice message straightaway. Since yesterday, I have tried more than 10 times but it is always the same. His address must be fake as well.
I found this guy has some other things advertised on gumtree but with different user name and different mobile numbers. I am sure he is still trying to cheat other people. I also took a photo of his van registration number: HNZ 9427. I reported this to Gumtree yesterday, but his ad is still there. How can I stopped other people from being cheated?
His current mobile number used on Gumtree is 07899471362. He used 07884386823, 07899471363 in the past two days.

Is he trading or a private seller. I presume its a 2nd machine?0

The washing machine was 2nd hand. I checked Gumtree and he did sell a few 2nd hand items in the past few days. I don't know if they are working. But he changed his numbers nearly every day, I assume he is still cheating.0

Had you had posted on the way you were going to purchase the item, many would have pointed out it is not an ideal way to conclude a sale.
Whilst not good, you have to take much of the blame here.0 -
As far as Gumtree is concerned its very much buyer beware,
i know as i got scammed with a washing machine as well, the seller a trader never honoured the guarantee when it broke down.
btw was it a private or trader ad?
there`s a couple of `private` white goods sellers with over 30 ads running at the moment0 -

It is a private ad. The price seemed to be fair and not very cheap.
If you search the mobile number you can still see his current ad on Gumtree and past ads in Google cache0 -

Indeed, he's got time to load it into a vehicle in a lunch break , lot's of things raise concern, yet the OP was not suspicious until afterwards.0 -

OP, years and years ago, a guy at work was offering a washing machine 'free to a good home' I took the offer and was chuffed with the bargain, as I lived alone the machine would only get used for 2 loads a week, so the machine worked fine for a few months and I remember the gifter asking how I was getting on with it and seemed amazed that I was content, it wasn't until one saturday afternoon, I arrived home and the kitchen floor was full of water, cut a long story short the old dial system used to stick on fill before rinse (hence why his Mrs just fancied a new machine). It was only after that I realised that the machine wasn't a gift per say, I was just used to collect/dispose of it (them days you would have to pay). I put it in the local paper and would have taken a fiver for it, as it happened I got more. Then guess what? A few weeks later the buyer had the machine advertised.
Nowadays machines can be 'cheap' brand new especially from independant outlets (but they are diminshing to the national chains) .0
