When is a bedroom not a bedroom

  • My 4th bedroom that I (probably) couldn't get a bed into is great. I have a floor to celling book shelf with all my books on it tucked into an alcove, a large desk with my computer on and the built in cupboard over the stairs holds all sorts of stuff.

I've also got a folding bed that lets me use it as a 4th bedroom on the few occasions I have a lot of visitors.

An awkward shaped room can often work out really well.

OP, I think you're asking the wrong question. You're asking about irrelevant general definitions but what you should be asking (yourself) is could you use the room?

One thing that helped me when buying was drawing out a floorplan to scale and seeing how the furniture would fit. There are free downloads that do this, e.g Sweet Home 3d.

Assuming the storage cupboard isn't fixed in place (e.g. if it is built around a stairs bulkhead that cuts into the room) then it sounds big enough for a single, to me.
