Car Hire/Car Pool London

Hi all,

Need to hire a car for this weekend. London based, travelling to Hereford. So gutted to find out that Whipcar is no more !! It was my life saver in the past. Zipcar I have but it's too expensive for such a trip.

Anyone know a good reliable car hire company?
Or a Whipcar/car pool type thing going on?
Based in Hackney.

Thanks !!

Can't you just use a conventional car hire firm? The big firms (Hertz, Enterprise, Europcar etc) have branches around London.

If you're constrained by opening hours you could consider using an airport branch as these are often open much longer hours than the town branches. In fact, if you don't mind getting public transport as far as Heathrow, picking it up there would let you avoid the London traffic.

It's a good idea to get separate excess insurance if you do this.

.....they are a bit more like it !! £30/day rental

Hertz, Enterprise, Europcar are rip off merchants and i want nothing to do with them !!

I've hired from Hertz numerous times and have never been ripped off.

  • Yes - 'rip off merchants' was harsh of me......
What I meant was they don't let you return the car on sunday and they are expensive and insurance t's&c's are not consumer friendly etc

Whip car I used to get a car for £20 a day and could collect and drop off as and when suited

Yeah, the Sunday thing is a pain - that's why I suggested the airport option. Not ideal having to use public transport to get to/from the airport though. Also, some places do a special weekend package where you can return on Monday.

I've never used easyCar but I've heard lots of bad reports about them adding on lots of extra charges. Take a look at some of the reviews here

Sometimes the "MoneySaving" approach is to pay a little more up front for a better service.

There are some locations in London with Sunday openings.
