  • Thanks, but if I am trying to contact that bank to inform them of this fraud, backed up by a Crime Number, then surely they should respond?

No, its not up to you to talk to the bank, the only people a bank would talk about any fraud investigation would be the police.

I've just been "caught" in a scam where I've paid direct into a bank account byt then got no goods and no comms now with seller. My question is why can't the receiving bank do more to give me the identity of the fraudster? I've done the ActionFraud bit so got a case number, but why can't the banks be more helpful?
Turn the question round and ask would you be happy for any Tom !!!!!! and Harry to be given any information about your account if they were to ask your bank?
The answer of course is no - but this is what you are trying to ask now.

so does that still stop a bank contacting one of their customers to say their account is a subject of a fraud investigation and why cannot they identify the fraudulent entry and action it?

Were a financial institution to do that, they'd be at risk of prosecution themselves for hindering any police investigation.
