What was that about wasting time?0 -
Nice one Conor!
This is 'money saving' advice, not the 'can I get away with it' forum.
As the actress said to the bishop (and as a previous poster has said!), 2cm is a significant size difference and the point is they should be standard and identifiable. The police have already had their time wasted by having to stop and deal with your car.
Take the advice given by others, pay your fine and get legal plates.... 'private fonts' look more chav, than charm, anyway.“Official Company Representative

Can't say i've ever heard of that

That's because it's rubbish. Vehicles have to comply with what the law said at the time of registration or meet the requirements of later rules.
So for example on a late 1950's car, silver lettering on black background is still legal to use on that vehicle but so would the latest black letters on yellow/white.0 -

Utter tosh.
If you have a car registered after the change of font/typeface/background colour, you can't use an earlier style of plate but if you have an earlier registered car, you can use the style that was made the requirement at the time plus any subsequent ones.0 -

I'd say being done by the police would be the least of his worries driving through some areas in that car, with that plate AND blacked out windows...

i tried that at the time but they cant take money, needs to go through official lines. the reg doesnt read anything but what it is, and is not intended to. i just though i was gettnig the plates cheaper off the net and not realising they werent legit. i appreciate any comments but not when somebody takes the moral and has teh attitude of "i told you so" mistakes happen, if it wasnt for them half of us wouldnt even be here!:pIt was in the news about the police cracking down on the number plates due to the font size, i would have payed there and then,0 -
You could try getting the money from whoever sold you the illegal plates if they are still trading.
Going to court with the line 'I bought them in good faith and didn't know they were illegal' MIGHT get you a lesser penalty. OTH it might not.0 -
The only thing I will add is that if you have an import vehicle where the space for the registration plate is physically too small to display a regular sized plate (eg. Japanese or American), you can use smaller (64mm) digits and a smaller physical plate size:
