Question about some weekly comps on Regulars board

Keep all that crap (text, postal, weeklies mag dailies) off the main board and while you're at it take the Rafflecopters too.0

The postal thread is a separate issue and, with the present voting poll, will be resolved one way or another in due course.
I've been on the comps forum a while now and rarely go into the regs board as it's low on my priority list for accessing comps when time is limited (so it's not just newbies who miss out potentially!).
1. As cagsd points out, it is rather inconsistent to have some regular/weekly/ongoing comps posted each week on the main board when quite a few others are not.
2. The whole debate about getting the mag dailies on the main board was to make them visible/accessible to everyone. Surely that logic should apply to the regular weekly comps too then?
3. Question - Under the Regs Board why is there a sticky for ''Sticky: Daily, Weekly and Onceonly Competitions - compilation threads'' but then all but one of the individual threads within it is duplicated right below the sticky EXCEPT for the WEEKLY COMPETITION POSTS: Updated Regularly - so what is the purpose of the sticky there? Sorry, not criticising, just trying to understand the logic here
4. The 'criteria' for the Regulars board is: "For all regular competitions that happen more than once, that would otherwise get lost on the main competitions board amongst all the one-off comps". There are many comps now posted on the main board that are not 'one-offs' - the mag dailies, RC comps. Conversely, there are certain 'regular weeklies' that make it onto the main board as 'one-day' comps ATM.
5. FWIW I would prefer to see all weekly comps that run on a particular day on the main board. The most confusing area of the regs thread is here: https://forums.moneysavingexpert.com/discussion/4827085 and it is impossible to keep track on which weeklies are still active and which are finished, so how a newbie could navigate that thread I don't know! There are plenty of dupes anyway, between that thread and comps on the main board, and it seems that the regs board isn't always updated either!
7. Maybe it's time for another 'poll' ??? :rotfl: I'm sure the weekly recurring comps could easily find a volunteer to post on the main board each week, if like cagsd, they are comps already saved as 'favourites' (I also have a few of these!!) then people ARE checking for them already and I'm sure they would be willing to post. As with the moving and reorganisation of the Mag Dailies thread earlier this year, it may be a bit of hard graft initially, but the new system would soon be up and running smoothly again=^._.^= You will always be lucky if you know how to make friends with strange cats =^._.^=0 -
I agree with snakepilsen but having said that - where would it all end? Impossible to say. Perhaps I only agree because I have my Mags and CTW all sorted in their own little file so I mostly don't refer to the main board for those, I don't do Rafflecopters, I don't do postals or text and I'd be very happy to never see another FB competition. It is indubitably true that the regulars are overlooked being where they are - I've only looked in once or twice and hotfooted it out of there in double quick time - it seemed a little all over the place and confusing although granted I didn't try very hard.
Anyway - whatever will be and all that. I'm happy with my system and spend little, if any!, time worrying about how other people work through it all!0 -
Where/how are they hidden?
Do you need a password to access them?
Is there a secret combination of threads you have to click on to make them appear?
Do you even have to be logged in to see them?
Do they only show up during a full moon and then only if you are standing on one leg with your left index finger up your right nostril while your right hand is tightly gripping your mouse?
No, not only are they are not "hidden" but the section is linked to within the guide that users are supposed to read
" NEW COMPERS PLEASE READ - Competition Board - useful links".0 -
I wish there was an expired button on the regulars board.0

Isn't that what everyone said about the mag dailes ?!! Yet, they all ended up on the main board because 'people were missing out'.
No, they're not 'hidden' as such, nor under lock and key, but neither are they in full view. Plus, you can't march newbies to the 'new compers' guide and make them read it (hence the [STRIKE]trillion[/STRIKE] oft repeated newbie posts in CCC asking for help and how they should navigate the comps board/enter comps etc)

It's a coincidence. All threads except the sticky are by default, sorted according to the last post in each thread.
Typically the 3 "daily" threads are near the top of the board, whereas the Weekly and Once Only can often be much lower down as they are added to less often. For example, on a Tuesday morning someone posts the new question in the Honeybuns thread, and that will then appear immediately under the sticky.
These 5 threads used to be stickies themselves so they always appeared at the top, but MSE introduced the "One Sticky per board" rule so they all had to be unstickied and replaced with the current index.0 -

Thanks One-Eye for the explanation :T This suggests to me that the regulars section needs a bit of an overhaul so a) it isn't so confusing for everyone (newbies and old-timers alike it seems) b) that the significant number of expired comps are removed from the quick links (it's just wasting peoples' time if they do venture in and then find they are clicking on old links/expired comps - I tried it this morning myself, so I speak from experience) and c) the issue of duping between regs and the main board is discussed/addressed/resolved.
- We are all aware of the poll about postals having their own separate board - it springs to mind (as the next logical step if they do go down that route) that if this applies to postals, then why wouldn't the same reasoning apply to mag dailies/Click to Wins, and possibly even the regular comps, so they all gain from the benefit of having their own Game Over and Compers Chat sections etc. That way, comps can be expired and duping should also be reduced.
I would apply Painkiller's thinking here too:Painkiller wrote: »Converting the Postal, Text & Phone thread into a sub-forum would allow you to click on enter (tick) or skip (cross) button for each individual competition hazyjo.
Some other advantages are that it would also allow the postal, text and phone competitions to be sorted by newest post, thread start time, popularity etc...
Expired competitions could be moved to game over rather than being left on the board.
Duplicate posts could be merged into a single thread rather than being left to repeat the same info.
The sub-forum would also be easier to find as the link to the current thread is buried within the 3rd comment of a thread on the main board.
In fact, I would argue that postals are significantly more visible on the main board than 'Regular' comps are as Postals thread is 'bumped' usually several times a day on the main board.
This post sums it up for me:It might just be me, but I really don't understand why comps, which may run weekly but have different prizes, are hidden away in the Regular Comps board - they must get missed by so many people
I only found this as mclarkie kindly posted it on the main board. It might just be me, but I really don't understand why comps, which may have different prizes, but run every week in the same place, have to clutter up the main board - if they're just listed here then people only have to sign up once to the thread and then it's easy.
I only found this because I look at the whole forum, not just one bit.

Tongue in cheek obviously, but the Regulars board has been here for years, if people don't look at it then tha'ts their own problem. Some people prefer one way, some prefer another, and we've never yet reached agreement on the right way to do it. So I prefer to just say thank you to whoever posted it, whether it's on Main or Regulars.
Thanks all :T
Coincidentally, many people argued that Mag Dailies had been around for years, and if people missed them it was their own fault...the end result was, following the vote/debate that they are now all posted on the main board, so it would be inconsistent/hypocritical if the Regulars were not tackled in the same way.
If postals get their own sub-forum, that opens the argument up for other 'comp types' (eg mag dailies, regulars, TAB/Puzzler) to also get their own sub-forums. If postals don't, and stay as an updated thread (like TAB/Puzzler) then it opens up the argument to start posting all postals on the main board, and likewise the regular/recurring comps too (not to mention all the TAB/Puzzler comps too! As they run along the same lines as the Postals).=^._.^= You will always be lucky if you know how to make friends with strange cats =^._.^=0 -
tbh i always forget to check the regular sub forum so if something isnt posted origially on the main board i would miss itWhat goes around-comes around0

The problem with the regular board compared to the suggested postal sub board is this -
When you go into competition time, you have pages of competitions, you can either enter and tick, or skip past and red cross it - easy to get the hang of and work out how you want to comp.
I would assume that the postal sub board will run exactly the same way, but in its separate place, so if people want to pay postage/text etc, they can.
The regulars board is not a list of competitions, its a list of threads/competitions/bumped posts etc. Ive been here for years, and i still find it confusing. I understand why its like that, but unless you have plenty of time and a really fast internet connection/computer, trying to navigate through it all (just open one of the threads and see all the extra 'stuff' within it) on top of entering competitions on the main thread is like wading through custard.
My personal opinion is the weekly thread should be done away with, the majority of those comps are posted on the main board anyway (just a thought, is there anyone out there that only enters regular competitions? i would think that would be a incredibly small minority if anyone) and until i found this thread (i have time today as i have a day off) had no idea that there were weekly competitions i was missing, as i see so many of them being posted on the main board. I wrongly assumed that all weekly comps were being posted - its not right that some are and some aren't.0
