Endsleigh 6 month = 1 year NCD accelerator?

Basically how it works is if I go with their policy, after 6 months I get 1 year NCD. The kicker is that nobody will accept 1 year NCD with 6 months of driving experience/insurance. So, they insure me for another year based on 1 year NCD. Which means at 18th month I now have 2 year NCD. Is that accepted by anyone?

I've done some calculations, Endsleigh always comes out cheaper. No other insurers come close to Endsleigh. Should I do it?

  • The issue of NCD > length driving license held is not just the preserve of accelerator scheme. My Aunt took 10 years to pass her test and all that time held insurance so had 10 years NCD but had held her full license 1 month or so at the point all online systems would reject quotes because of this problem. Somewhat thankfully call centre/ back end systems do allow this to be pushed through as there are legitimate reasons for it but that does make price comparison more painful.

The challenge of accelerator schemes in particular is that there is no guarantee that others will accept them even if you get round the IT issue. Indeed most try a lot to ensure that others dont as it creates lock in

I tried a few fictional quotes, main comparison sites seem happy to quote when NCD > length of driving license held.

Assuming there's no IT issue, and the NCD document has NO info about accelerator scheme or whatever. Is it considered insurance fraud if I don't mention anything about bonus accelerator when insuring?

No, if you have a letter stating "1 years NCD" from an insurer/ broker then you are perfectly entitled to say you have 1 years NCD.

The law requires insurers to ask the pertinent questions rather than expecting the customer to volunteer it. So if accelerator schemes are an important consideration then they must ask.

    .
Endsleigh don't issue any "proof" of NCD after 6 months.

The policy is a six month one after which you can renew it for 12 months with the equivalent of one year's NCD.

Presumably they do issue a renewal quote which is the evidence that is normally used for proof of NCD.

I've never seen one of these, what does it say on the renewal quote about NCD/ Discount?

As per the prior post, most do try to create lock in by making it very clear that this isnt 1 years NCD but some others may or may not accept it anyway, all comes down to exactly what is said and how much the other company wants the business

    No

As posted its a special 6 month policy with the renewal feature.

You buy it then when it expires and you have been claim free they offer you renewal with the equivalent of one year's discount knocked off. No standard NCD is awarded for the 6 month policy.

I understand its a special feature but they must still provide a renewal quote and there must be some words on there to confirm if you do or dont have "the discount". Without seeing exactly how its worded/ laid out its guess work as to if anyone else will accept it or not.

As I said, the guess is that they will have tried to put it in a way not to be acceptable to others but not always.
  • Thanks. I think I'll go for this policy as this results in a significant saving for me unless there's hidden catches I missed.

They just give you a quote if you haven't claimed incorporating the discount (which is "non transferable" of course)

If you have claimed then you don't get a renewal quote, but have to start again buying a new 6 month policy (if you want to)
  • The reason no one will allow you the ncb is your age. based on the above i guess you are 18. at 18 you can not of had a licence long enough or been able to hold insurance long enough to earn the 2 years.

Most companies wont accept a bonus accelerator as they ask for years no claims bonus not a fictitious figure supplied which they themselves will only honor.

Admiral did this years ago and no one would accept it outside of admiral if the underwriter was made aware of the fact.
