I still think they count as self employed based on that. I only provide the products because they want me to. I'd be very happy for them to bring their own.

They come tomorrow so I will speak to them and see what they say.

I hope you get it sorted.:)

Looking at the balance to determine if employed or self employed its interesting.

Personally I think many people incorrectly treat employed cleaners as self employed because they are employed only part time.
    Very few would be employees

  • Personally, I would not make a huge fuss over this. If you have got a good cleaner then hold onto them. I would mention it so the problem doesn't happen again but on the other side of the coin be pleased that they were actually cleaning the plug bit thoroughly and not cutting corners.

I seriously would not deduct the money and certainly wouldn't do for a 3.99 frame.

Speak to them and explain then move on and enjoy your lovely family.

I thought of this thread today whilst at a meeting at work about operational practices. The '5 whys' came up, meaning you dig a bit deeper into what the actual issue is. In this case you have a scratched sink. It's been scratched by not using the products you supplied for that area. The product used was elsewhere in the house. So your starting point is why did they go and get that product from your kitchen. The answer may be for example that the cleaning cloths for the bathroom had run out. I'm not saying that they had, just using it as an example to illustrate what I mean.

Well, they bring their own cloths and the plastic scourers are under the sink still, but I get your point.

I wasn;t able to speak to them because they texted at the last minute on Thursday and said they were running really late and could theyc ome Friday. I said OK, but on Friday by lunchtime they weren;t here (their time is 10.45) so I texted and said I had to go out and not to bother coming. I asked them to be on time next week.

I'm going to find someone else and sack these ones. I'm so cross they didn;t come. They are always late or rearranging and I find it really rude and unprofessional.

This would annoy me more than the scratched plug, I think. Hope you manage to find someone better next time.
  • Just seen this thread. I'd be more annoyed at their lax attitude to time/date keeping. I also wonder why if you provide all the necessary cleaning materials in each room, why they felt the need to go and look for a scourer. What could possibly be in/on the plug hole that they decided a scourer was the best option?!

Finding a new cleaner is ultimately your best solution.
