do I still need to display my in date paper tax disc ?
Hi All
When the vehicle excise duty (car tax) changes over to the new system of vehicle owners not receiving a paper tax disc to display on 01st October 2014
After that date can I remove my paper tax disc (valid until end July 2015) from my windscreen ?
or do I have to wait until it expires in 10 months time ?

If I were you I`d leave it where it is.
Can you really rely on a government dept. getting it all right without teething troubles.0 -
Not until 1/10.0

Yes - they become totally redundant on 1st October, however I've had my 2012 disk displayed with no ill effects to the present. I believe the law is just catching up with practice.0

I intend removing mine on the 1st October - the cost of it annoys me every time I see it.

It would take a pretty stupid police officer or whoever for issuing a ticket for not displaying the disc after 1st October. It's hardly gong to be enforceable considering there will be no requirement to do so.If I were you I`d leave it where it is.

Mine is coming off on 1st October.0 -

If for some reason the DVLA (a gov. dept.) makes an a*se of the tax renewal and the police car with ANPR flags it up as having no tax, then the disc on the windscreen may prove useful.
It`s not a matter of displaying it but having it.
This did happen to a friend recently but not regarding the tax disc but his insurance.
You obviously have more faith in the DVLA than me.0 -

I have zero faith in the DVLA but after the 1st of October the disc is irrelevant and will mean nothing to anyone at all - least of all the police.
If an ANPR equipped car flagged it up the disc won't help as it's solely what is on the computer data base that counts.
Just like the MOT 'certificate' - it's not actually a certificate any more - it tells you that on the bit of plain A4 paper your 'receipt' is printed on.
It is what has been recorded on the DVSA database as the result of the test that is the legal bit.
No-one needs an MOT certificate anyway - the Post Office don't need to see it, and any buyer should check on-line as the bit of paper would be too easy to falsify.0 -
I renewed my VED yesterday for 12 months, I will miss not getting that new colour disc to put on my windscreen, I will have to leave the current one there.0

It just seems a bit pointless to throw away a tax disc you are already displaying when it`s not actually expired, whether you need to or not.0

It'll be one less 'functionless' sticker on my screen.
Besides I need the space for my Low Emission Zone sticker and an assortment of other permits, passes, and toll vignettes.
Each of the issuers seems to think that there info is more important than anyone else's.
I'd like to have a completely 'stickerless' screen, but each year I seem to have more.0
