  • lilyplonk back in the days when the wolf was banging on the door as my late OH was out of work (circa 1983) we once did a Christmas with presents where it was 'as many things as you could buy for a fiver' and it was brilliant. My eldest DD found a thing in a CS for testing cakes to see if they are done, and I still use it today Like a long thin hat-pin, but a bit longer (if you are old enough to know what a hat pin was :):))
Lots of daft and funny things, and everything was wrapped and put around the tree. So we all had different things to unwrap.
My youngest DD actually wrapped half a dozen bath cubes individually :):) there's love and patience for you :):).
Some of it was wrapped in unusual shapes, so we tried to guess what was in there. Great fun and none of us missed not having big gifts that year. The girls really enjoyed trying to fool their Mum and Dad. Probably one of the best Christmas's I remember with so much hilarity going on. my youngest is 45 this year but still remember it every year and tells her boys what it was like in the 'dark ages' before internet,Sky and gadgets :):):)

candlelight I can do 'pert' by Christmas hopefully :):):)

Coffee morning was good and it was nice to see old friends again.Tonight I am off to Quiz night at the local pub so no cooking for me tonight as I get supper thrown in with the price of the quiz.£2.00 for a night out with food is really OS and great value I think.

I am going to have a ham salad for lunch shortly as the weather is so nice I may have a stroll around the local park before I go to DDs for the boys coming home from school at 3.30.
I am off to bonnie Scotland at the end of next week for two days, as both my cousins from Canada and Australia are over visiting, so we are having a meeting up of the 'clans ' in Brechin. I hope the weather is kind to us,but I will pack warmer clothes just in case.

My eldest DD and I fly up the day after the referendum to Aberdeen then pick up a hire car from the airport. I hope they will let us in !!! :):):).

Busy week next week as my DGD Holly has her graduation ceremony at Canterbury Cathedral on the Wednesday then I go to Scotland on the Friday, fly home Saturday night and DGS Ben goes off to Norwich to Uni on the Sunday.
I thought this week was busy enough but next week will be even more so:):) still no time to get bored.right I'm off for some lunch and a wander in the park to walk it off.
have a good day everyone what every you are doing

Can't link as am on a tablet(don't have laptop/desk top anymore).its WWW.theproject333.com. It's basically 33 items of clothing to last 3 months(per season) you cut out stuff you don't wear/won't fit/don't like. I have found 33 unworkable this side of the pond as if I had 5 shirts for work they wouldn't be washed in time so I am at about 40 items. But it is a good way of clearing wardrobe clutter. The bemorewithless.com is a sister website that is quite good also. Couldn't believe I cleared 3 bags of summer clothes that I haven't worn. Looking forward to clearing excess winter stuff

I have got my wardrobe down to a bare minimum. 18 items which doesn't include coats of which I have 2.

Do you find you are spending more time washing/drying clothes?
    NOT BUYING IT 2018!

Consumerism is.....buying things you don't need with money you don't have to impress people you don't know and probably wouldn't like even if you did know them.

Not really. I'd wash my clothes every other day whether ive got 10 items or 30. Of course frequent washing would mean they get more wear than if they were spread out over a wardrobe full but I tend to wear the same stuff anyway.

I have 5 pairs of shoes. Well two pairs of boots and three pairs of shoes. I really don't need any more than that.....but saying that, I don't have to buy clothes for work.

Thanks for the link 1of3. I know we all have way more clothes than we need so I will have a look at the link :)

There was mention of parsnip and apple soup on another thread but no recipe. It sounds lovely though so have just googled to find one. Lots have double cream which I need to avoid (thanks to the gall bladder and diet) but I came across this one which I'm going to make now:

Hopefully it turns out ok and then tonight's meal will be parsnip & apple soup followed by chicken chasseur, mashed potato, carrots and sweet corn :)

  • Afternoon all,

Another beautiful day :) I cleaned through this morning and washed the downstairs floors. A neighbour of ours has a lovely dog - some sort of staffie mongrel cross called Daisy and she is adorable. She came in last night when DH came home and as I was sorting out my scrumped apples and pears she took a liking to a pear. I had to peel it for her as without 'arms' it keep rolling around the floor :) So I had a bit of a sticky patch left.

We have a retractable awning on the back of the house (south facing) and I got up and put the cover back on it for the winter as I don't suppose I will be needing it any more this year.

I'm going to make sweet and sour for dinner.

Going to have some fun tonight as DH needs to 'shave' ready for his snip tomorrow. I told him I'd wax his bits for him instead but oddly enough he wasn't too keen...

Right, have a good evening all x

The joys of work, no email, no internet, staff absent 1 due to bereavement, 1 due to depression!
I'm glad I'm home, sausage & mash for tea & then on with the quilting.
    Rinse & repeat tomorrow.
    Hugs Hester
    Chin up, Titus out.

Gosh how odd, I'm another who didn't sleep!

I woke up at 4am to nip to the loo, and was then wide awake. DH made the fatal mistake of opening an eye as I got back into bed so I started chatting to him, then neither of us could get back to sleep!
Both felt rotten this morning

Still sunny so did lots of washing. DH made a bbq sauce from our homegrown tomatoes at the weekend which I'm now using to marinade some pork chops for dinner. He also made a lovely apple crumble which we will finish too :D

I'm trying to get organised for winter and have been washing all the woolies. There are a lot of moths in our house and I have some camphor tablets but not sure if I'd rather have holey jumpers - that stuff doesn't half pong!

Hugs to all in need and I hope everyone has a better nights sleep tonight xx
