Sky Broadband Contract

Hello everyone!

I really hope to get some advice here about Sky broadband contracts. I am coming to the UK from Europe to do a one year postgraduate degree and I need to set up a broadband for this year. I have found a wonderful deal through moneysavingexpert with Sky that offers Line rent & b'band £192 over a year (£15.40/mth + £7 p&p) and £192 M&S vouchers, Contract length: 12 month.

My question is that once I finish my studies and this 12 months contract will be over, should I just call Sky and tell them that I do not want to renew the contract?

I highly appreciate any advice as I have no experience in setting up Internet broadband in the UK and I am just worried that I will be tied up further with them and that there might be extra charges for not renewing the contract and etc.

You are tied in for a year and then if you find you are staying longer it automatically goes onto a monthly rolling contract. If you are staying just a year you call 11 months in and give a month's notice of cancellation.

You will be subject to a £30 ish disconnection charge when you cancel the service. This is levied by BT Openreach to cover their exchange work.

    It's not a 12m contract. It's a 12m minimum term.
No free lunch, and no free laptop ;)
  • I also have a question about this offer. Sky are sending me £100 of m&s vouchers through the post but where do the £92 worth of m&s vouchers come from. It said I would be contacted by a third party via email but I haven't received anything yet and don't know who I should look out for an email from?

    Thanks!

Sky only ask for 14 days notice if you don't have tv.

No you won't. Sky don't charge this fee.

I also signed up on the day it went live and was connected today. I received an email from 'voucher window' saying my code had been accepted (didn't enter a code) but that I had to apply through this affiliated window?

Not even sure if I clicked through the right link! Would like to find out ASAP before the 14 day cooling period is up!

It might be worth you talking to their sales team to see if they will offer you a better deal to join them. Do not mention that it will only be for 12 months because they prefer the option that you will stay with them. Tell them that you will be moving to the UK and that you are looking for a phone & broadband deal. Look at competing offers and use them to negotiate a lower price. They were offering phone/broadband for under £9 a month a little while back. The vouchers are not really a great deal even if you actually get them.

Other providers are offering better deals for broadband than the deal you are interested in.

Look at PlusNet and Talk talk and the 12 months phone line paid in advance which can bring the cost of the phone line down to about £11/month.
  • I signed up on the last day for this deal, the link wasnt working via my laptop so signed up through mobile. Sky sent me an e-mail with £25 M&S voucher, not the promised £100. What can I do, now having doubts whether I will receive the £92 also. Have I been conned???:(
