UPVC door

Options
I know this is going to be one of those it could be £xxx to £xxx answers BUT....

I need a new front and back door. I may as well get them done before winter sets in so I have been on 12 websites trying to get an idea of cost and not one gives a price.

Safestyle is doing their permanent bogof offer but still doesnt give a price.

So can anyone give an idea as to how much it would cost to get the doors and have them fitted?
Ive seen the doors alone from around £100-150 so I can only assume I am looking at £600-800? I will give soe firms a call tomorrow but im just wondering what I should expect.

Another happy customer of valuedoors. It's a franchise I think, very efficient, and we are very pleased with our door (and the fitter).

May I hijack this thread for one question please.

Could you tell me about the multi point locking system? Is it a 3 point or more?
On the website it just says multi.
Ta much, am looking for new doors for 2 houses and want to get the best for my money.

  • About 6 I think. We have the high security one.
  • Make sure you change the lock cylinder for a Avocet ABS one. A lot of cheap PVC doors just come with cheap Yale cylinders that can be snapped easily. No amount of multipoints will matter here.

I was planning to get rock doors, I have upvc with 13 point currently and they are at the end of their life. So was going to get the best i can afford but with at least the same if not better security.

Strength of door is matless. It's the lock cylinder, the barrel you put the key in that matters. These can be bumped and snapped easily, and if snapped, burglar can open the door with a screwdriver doesn't matter how many multipoints you have then.

Yes think its a 6 point and if you choose the rock door it comes with an uprated anti snap and bump euro lock and I chose the added wire mesh in the bottom panel they will need a tank to drive through my door..It almost gave the fitter a hernia fitting it apparently so its solid

I think the strengh of the door matters as well. I had a standard uPVC door, away for a couple of days and got burgled. Essentially they they just knocked through the centre section of the door, leaving the frame of the door attached to the doorframe with all the cylinder and barrels in place, they then propped the centre section back in place so that at a casual glance, it looked fine:(. Bar stewards!

I have an ultimate Rockdoor front and back now. I certainly wouldn't have a standard uPVC again.
  • Not many burglars will want to make noise knocking a door down, thats why they just snap the lock cylinder. Quick and quiet.
