I dont mean to hijack the thread but would any-one mind telling how old their child was when they were diagnosed with adhd please? (As in how old do they have to be) Thanks,“Love yourself first and everything else falls into line. Your really have to love yourself to get anything done in this world.” Lucille Ball.0

my son was just five, they have to have the behaviour/ symptoms (if you can call it that) by the time they are 7 for a true diagnosis, my son has an autistic spectrum disorder too which is harder to diagnose aspergers wise until he is a bit older to see how it manifests itself.0

My nephew has autism with learning difficulties , he was diagnosed at 4 and it was then that i realised my son who is 14 now and him were very alike in certain ways for example climbing and jumping on people or things , no fear , no tact etc , my nephew also takes things literally for example if you say no you cant run (meaning cos there is a busy road etc) he will show you his legs moving in running motion to prove that he can run , my son doent have this part and it was this reason i thought it was adhd because they are in the same bracket i think.safc forever

hi lainie, i wouldd seek a second opinion, as a mum to two boys with adhd, and having close friends, whose sons are adhd, i know that they don't need to be running around all the time in order to get a diagnosis.
your previous post regarding your sons behavious sounds exactly like one of my lads.
by the way, the doc that diagnosed ds1 said that ds2 didn't have it. but we sought second opinions when his behavious was so bad he was excluded from school.
now both lads are statemented, they receive the correct medication, after much trial and error and finally things are looking up for us as a family.
I think i will do that , my son refuses to go to school his attendence level is on 19% he is currently on a revised timetable which is 4 days a week 2 hours a day , now also his behavior in school is terrible and after fighting him to go to school , he has gone to some of the revised timetable which i believe is a breakthrough with him as he hasnt gone in nearly a year , he then gets excluded for swearing and being disruptive which then means he isnt allowed to school for a week and they have broken up for school holidays now , i really have been shocked at the system , i have all these people invovled which i have had to fight to get for years and they couldnt run a !!!! up in a brewery.safc forever

lainie, my heart goes out to you, my sons have been on revised timetables for most of there school life and its so difficult and draining, not getting a break from them.
I have twin 12 yr olds. one was diagnosed as ADHD at 6 yrs, other identical lad, under different doctor in clinic, wasn't diagnosed til he was 11.
After been permanently excluded from secondary school last sep, they had only been there few days, they were home educated til they got a place at a spacial school, for kids with behavior probs, they are taught in a class which has a max of 6 kids, and the staff are so patient which has helped loads.
once you get a diagnosis, you can also claim DLA for them which is a bit of a bonus tooenjoy life, we only get one chance at it:)0 -
