Slave to saving

I can't take a break from saving and it's annoying me to no end.
I'm not in a bad situation and have a fairly good amount of money that I have saved for the last few years.
I have always been a saver since I left school. I can't help but put money away in case of an emergency. (what emergency I don't know)
I have been saving for my wedding and now I need to part with a good chunk of my cash. I should be thinking "great, it's what I have been saving for, this is ok to spend" but instead I feel guilty even thinking of dipping into it.
I think it gets to me as all my money is in one account and I love seeing the numbers increase after payday. Perhaps I should have saved my wedding money in a different account rather than lump it together, but I was getting the best interest rate on this account at the time.
Does anyone else feel like this? what's a good balance between saving/ spending? Can someone please comment and tell me how stupid I am to feel guilty for spending my own money :rotfl:

If you were going to spend it on a house, or motorbike, or boat I'd applaud. Even on a cellar of fine wine.
But I take a dim view of the modern craze for extravagant weddings, so I can't help you there I'm afraid.Free the dunston one next time too.0 -
Got a house/car but no boat I'm afraid lol.
I'm not looking to spend my whole amount on the wedding, only about £7k. But I still feel horrible parting with the cash. Savings £18,000 / £25,000 :beer:0 -
Its strange, i am in a same boat as you (not getting married though) but i love my balance going up every payday. One part of me says that i have saved enough and should enjoy more but dont know unable to do that. i save like 16-1700£/month which i think is too much and i should spend more.
In nutshell: You are not alone mate0 -

Wow great savings there! Well done :T
I know I should relax and enjoy more but I still worry. Glad I'm not the only one. Savings £18,000 / £25,000 :beer:0 -
I have been saving 500 a month for a number of years now, meant to buy the OH a nd I new cars (for cash not on finance).
His car is 14, and mine is 10 lol and I still have the money.
So you aren't alone, but you will part with the money- unless you are planning to stay single lol0 -

Are you saving that 1600-1700 in cash?
The 500 I am savings isn't all i save, just cash savings. I save more in investments and pensions. Have you considered these for your savings? Better for longer term goals (although had I known I would not part with my savings for the car I would have invested the money lol)0 -
"The king was in the counting house, counting out his money".
In my case, it was the queen in the counting house, and it became a very lonely place.....
And congrats. money_maker on your forthcoming wedding.0 -

Hi, I'm an avid saver too but a tricky situation a few years back taught me the value of having savings to draw down on - money can help in certain, but not all, situations.0
