CCJ from 2009 / Credit Score

Hi.

Just recently got my credit file up and a CCJ i had against me from 2009 still shows on my account.

I paid this debt off in 2012 so I owe nothing to the company any more.

I contacted them to try and get this removed but they say it is nothing to do with them any more.

Is the Court the best place to contact to get it taken off?

Any advice is appreciated.

Also I got my credit score which is 744 and says Fair on my record. Does that make me about average?

Again, any pearls of wisdom appreciated.

Cheers.

  • It stays there for 6 years from date of default, regardless of whether you pay it or not...

The 774 credit score means nothing to anyone.
  • When you say credit score means nothing - why do banks search for your credit score then if it is meaningless?

    They don't search for that.

They search for things like defaults, missed payments etc, and then use that information to take their own view of your risk profile using their own algorithms and formulas.

You could have a "perfect 999" rating on one of the CRAs, and a bank could internally rate you as a fraction of that.
  • No banks search for your credit score. They wouldn't find it even if they tried.

    They search your credit files.

Ok guys thanks.. so the credit score is what - just an educated guess on credit worthiness based on the info they have?

  • At best.

But given they don't know what you earn, or what any given lender is looking for (some as more risk averse than others), and clearly struggles to calculate the number in any meaningful way (as you can have a 999 score and have been bankrupt), it's probably fairer to say it's a meaningless load of old twaddle.

Why not have a read of the sticky thread at the top of this board?

Does the CCJ on your credit file show as satisfied?
