Use ParkingTicketAppeals, go it alone, or pay up?

My Parking Eye appeal was rejected - letter received today.
I was 12 minutes over the 1hr 30 minute allowance.
Also, I genuinely did not know PE operated there.
Having read the NEWBIES thread and other bits, the next step seems complicated and a little daunting.
I am concerned that if I lose the POPLA appeal, I will have to pay the full amount of £70 instead of the discounted £40 if I were to just pay up. What do people think my odds are? Or is it dependent on how well I word the appeal (and that's what frightens me because it seems like it needs to be written in quite a 'legal speak' style).
Or I could use parkingticketappeals.org.uk - who charge £16 and 'guarantee' to pay your fine even if they lose. Anyone used them?
Or should I just admit defeat and pay up? (although it would really rile me to do so).
Thanks in advance for any advice/opinions.

I thought you said you'd read the NEWBIES thread?
Clearly not if you're asking these questions!0 -

If you really are frightened to do it your self, with an offer like that above why on earth would you pay the Parking Eye (text removed by MSE Forum Team)?0 -
that firm are a product of some well respected forum members here, and yes plenty have used them
post #3 of the newbies thread has links to PE appeals you can adapt
the POPLA DECISIONS sticky thread details winning cases and PE dont bother filing at popla now so members win by default, end of story (check the last 10 pages)
pay PE ? - no chance !! only a fool what do that and you are no fool (I hope)
the choice really is yours, not ours , to make0 -
What is so complicated
1) send appeal from post 1 of newbie thread.
2) get rejection and POPLA code
3) send a standard PE popla appeal linked to in post 3 of newbie thread
4) win appeal.
Simples.Newbie thread: go to the top of this page and find these words: Main site > MoneySavingExpert.com Forums > Household & Travel > Motoring > Parking Tickets, Fines & Parking. Click on words Parking Tickets, Fines & Parking. Newbie thread is the first post. Blue New Thread button is just above it to left.0 -
Honestly at your stage what on earth is complicated about choosing the POPLA winning appeal for Parking Eye which matches your case? I link just 3 examples for PE in 'How to win at POPLA' in post #3 of the top thread. One for a free car park, one for an MSA and one for a pay & display car park. Hmmmm not so difficult!
Is it that you can't quite believe you are about to win and aren't convinced that PE never now contest those POPLA appeal templates? If that's your issue, merely a lack of confidence, then click on the END (last post) of the 'POPLA decisions' sticky and read back 10 pages, noting the outcome of ALL recent ParkingEye cases people have reported about on the end of that thread. You'll soon see a pattern. And you will join them next month! What do people think my odds are?
You don't even have to 'word the appeal'! I've already written it for you. Just choose your example, depending on whether yours was a free, or MSA or P&D car park.PRIVATE 'PCN'? DON'T PAY BUT DON'T IGNORE IT (except N.Ireland).

That's a really hard one
Do you pay:
£70 to scammers
£40 to the same scammers
Or
£16 to someone who will ensure the scammers get £0

Thanks for the helpful replies.
I filled in the PE online appeal and probably selected the driver and keeper option from the drop-down. What effect does that have on my appeal? Does it mean I cannot include some arguments?
Having used the template arguments, is it necessary to include evidence like receipts for shopping at the time, and photos of signs obscured by trees? (although not all the signs were obscured).
Looking at other appeals, I don't have any 'extra' arguments, like it was dark or it was busy so I spent 10 minutes driving round, or a passenger was taken ill, and I think I admitted I was the driver - does this weaken my case significantly?0 -
No "extra" arguments required. What you did or did not do on the day are entirely irrelevant. Stick to the well-honed appeals linked from the NEWBIES thread, changing just the specifics where necessary, and you'll be fine. When you get to POPLA appeal, post up a draft of your appeal (which will be mostly copy'n'paste) into this thread for review before submitting it. Don't miss deadlines.
Oh, and PE are likely to respond to your initial appeal, giving you a further 14 days to submit more evidence, despite the fact this is contrary to the BPA CoP. You can simply reply saying "nothing further to add, accept appeal or give me POPLA code."0 -

When you look at the 3 examples of PE POPLA appeals as linked in 'How to win at POPLA' in post #3 of the newbies thread, where do you see stuff about being taken ill or other mitigation? You don't!
Nor do you need receipts nor pics of signs. Just the right appeal copied & tweaked if anything isn't right exactly. IMHO you could even copy one of the examples verbatim with no changes and still win.PRIVATE 'PCN'? DON'T PAY BUT DON'T IGNORE IT (except N.Ireland).

In that case perhaps you should rule out go it alone. You never know how far you can go until you go too far.0
