My gas & electric

I moved into a rented properly just over a month ago. I rang up my gas & electric supplier (flow energy) to activate the account. They set up a direct debit and said everything was sorted. When the DD was due to go out, it didn't. I rang them up to question this, I was then told that the previous tenant had not cancelled the account so they would email the account holder to do so as I would not be able to open the account in my name till it was done. I rang flow energy for the 3rd time this morning to try sort it, the same was said again. I know of the previous tenant so I spoke to her about it, she is saying everything was cancelled and the account is not in her name which it clearly still is. She isn't budging or even willing to ring up the energy company to sort it like any normal person would do. What can or should I do??

    Make sure you keep your meter readings from when you first moved in. Utilities always go after payment and they will sort it out eventually if the former tenant hasn't. As long as you can account for your usage since you moved in (and you're happy to pay for it) flowenergy can't have any issues with you.

    I'd be inclined to put the facts in writing to flowenergy in the form of a complaint. (Complaint letters tend to be noticed and acted upon).
