Online Accounts That Accept Payment In Via Direct Debit

Options
Hi,

Apologies if this has already been asked and a list exists elsewhere, but :-

Can someone advise of some current online accounts that will allow a direct debit to be setup from another account to pay funds in. Reason for asking, well the usual really.

I have Santander 123 accounts, etc, and want to have the 2 direct debits paying into other accounts of mine. I have already done this by utilising the Tesco Online Savings Account, just wanted to know if there are any others out there that allow this.

I would also like the account to have the facility to set this up online, i.e. with the Tesco account you can tell it where the Direct Debits will be sourced from (in this case the Santander accounts). I know some allow this by sending off forms to the sending bank, but I would rather have this facility online so I can adjust it at my will.

Thanks in advance.

Roty :)

You cannot pay any funds into any current account by Direct Debit.

You can pull money into some savings accounts by Direct Debit (e.g. Tesco savings, you know about already). There are one or two others similar to Tesco but not as flexible and useful. Search the forum , there is a thread about it, but don't expect much that you don't know already.

If you know how to use Tesco savings accounts, there's not much point chasing for any others.

Post Office Savings accounts uses direct debit to "pull" money from another account. I use one of these as one of the DDs on my Halifax Reward account.
  • Hi Archi Bald,
Thanks for your reply. Yeah I kind of got that feeling from the amount of googling I've been doing. I did find a thread on this forum some time ago but couldn't find it again tonight, but will have another look. The thread was quite long from memory, some 20 odd pages if I remember correctly. I think the second page had quite a list of providers that allowed this facility, but from what I've found lately I think the list is somewhat out of date, however still a good reference point. I will let you know what I find over the next coming week.

    Hi LXdaddy,
Thanks also for your reply. I have also opened one of the PO accounts. It does, as you say, allow this, although I have found it more limiting than the Tesco account. You seem to (from my experience) have to keep changing the nominated account to the new one that you want to set up a direct debit pull-in from. Somewhat cumbersome to keep having to change it, but then again I suppose I should be more than grateful that the facility is there to start with. Out of the 2, the Tesco one seems much easier to use for the need that I have, but thanks anyway. As stated above, I shall advise if I find anything new.

    Kind regards

AA and Aldermore savings - these set up DDs to a linked current account, dunno if you can set them up for automatic monthly DDs though (ie would work for Santander, needs a bit of effort for Halifax Reward).

You really only need Tesco Savings accounts as there is nothing you need doing (for maximising returns from current accounts) that cannot currently be done with them.

I think this thread is the one you're referring to....
  • Hi ManAtHome,
Thanks for the info , I shall look into these. Do you know whether you can have more than 1 linked account from these providers?, i.e 3 or 4 linked accounts with AA and Aldermore?

    Kind regards

Do I need to say any more?
  • Blimey,
I didn't expect that many replies so quickly this late. I'm working a nightshift, do you people not sleep?

    Thanks Archi Bald,
Yes I agree, I can do everything I want just with the Tesco account. Trouble is, I'm a kind of 'safety net' person and was trying to set up the same with another provider, just so I've got the peace of mind that if Tesco announce they are going to remove the facility, then I will still have another already set-up without having to frantically chase for an alternative. It kind of creates an inner karma for me, lol.

    Thanks eskbanker,
Yes, spot on, that was the thread I originally saw. I do think some of those first listed now no longer provide this facility but will gladly stand corrected.

    Kind regards

rotator - Santander do not require the DDs to pay out monthly, you could link a PayPal account, an annual subscription, or a donation to charity, any of which could create a qualifying DD.

You should be using DDs to pay energy, water, communications and council tax bills by DD from your Santander123. The cashback from these could cover the account fee.
