as i am on low income we do not enter holiday comps unless all inclusive with travel, accomodation and hopefuly spending money. we do not drive so always expensive even to get to manchester or leeds train station or airport.
i always try and wrk out costs of things not included before i enter so i can see if its worth it especially for ones you have only 3mths to book holiday.
we would struggle to come up with £200 spare money for spending and travel as well as booking kennels and petsitters (£30a day min)
although i am self employed i have a lot of last minute work so never know if ill have time free in the time specified to take holiday as cant afford to turn down work
would rather get money or things to sell as can find offers on travel and accomodation in the area i want to visit without having to go to an expnsive hotel included in prize0 -
My husband has been very lucky and won us a holiday to The Maldives which is all booked and the countdown has begun:j
As we live near Leeds and we fly from Gatwick we will have to pay for our train fare and a nights stay in a hotel at Gatwick.
Everything is all inclusive so the only money we need is some dollars for tips. There seems to be little else we would need to spend money on.
Insurance is also included but if we had had any medical conditions we would have had to pay the extra. As the value of the holiday is around £7000 for one week then for us paying the relatively small amount for own travel is well worth it for us.
As for entering for short breaks in this country I don't enter for anything in Devon, Cornwall or the South coast and if it's for one night then here in Yorkshire or the Lake District is about as far as we would travel.2016 wins 1/250 -
im quite lucky i live in cornwall so ive been looking at the cornwall based holidays or somewhere close ish which i can get a train to. i also dont have a passport, ive never been abroad and would love to. and as cheeky as it sounds id probably try tie any holiday in with birthday/xmas as i could get grandparents/parents to pay transport..0

shame you dont live near me, i take animals into my home & ask for no money just that they come with enough food to cover their stay. currently have a one eyed staffy staying with no idea how long he will be here and once a month his owners drop food down to me.. works for me.0 -
i dont tend to enter holiday comps as theres always extra expense which i just cant afford-unless its the big itv ones that comes with cash but theyre slowly stopping online entries nowWhat goes around-comes around0

I won a £2500 holiday voucher last year. We could have used it on a European holiday but decided to put it towards a Florida trip. We probably spent the same amount again but it was definitely worth it! Best win ever!
Top wins - Florida holiday, North Carolina holiday, Sky TV for a year, wine for a year
Thanks to all who post and good luck to everyone!!:rotfl:0 -
Won Barbados AI last year so no extra money needed.
Also won a voucher which I exchanged for an AI holiday in Turkey.
Won a fly drive to Alberta, Canada which meant paying for your own meals which wasn't particulaler expensive.
Won a city break to Canada (Monteal&Quebec).Had to pay for meals but not that expensive.
Won a four night break to Ireland (Castle Leslie) which they desrcibed as AI but was FB. Car Hire with SatNav was also included. Just paid for some petrol but was given £200? spending money anyway.
Won four nights Dundee (golf holiday) and accommodation was HB so just had to pay for lunches plus paid for a cheap car hire.
Won trip to Manchester and given £200 for travel. Only had to pay for lunch.
Won trips to London where you can spend as much or as little as you want.
One of those trips included a meal in a Mayfair restaurant with £150 credit for meal but we could only get up to £100 ;-(( as we are not drinkers.
Have won three trips to Paris, one of which I didnt take because of the cost.
Have won a Eurocamp holiday which I decided not to take as the travel costs and food costs whilst there seemed expensive (Gave holiday back and was given to a reserve winner)
Won Morocco AI
Won Cook Islands but airline tax was £800+ plus I thought I would need to spend at least another £1k so asked for it to be redrawn. (In hindsight I wished I had paid the money and gone.
And 2014? Haven't won a single break or holiday. I must confess I don't enter SC holidays, one night in a hotel, breaks on the other side of country, or where flights not includedthanks to all posters
PARKRUN - The only time the ladies chase me!
I've changed my facebook username to NOBODY so when I enter FB comps I press the "Like" button it will say NOBODY likes this0 -
I've won the odd one - the nearest was in Cardiff which we combined with a family duty visit which we were going to do anyway but still ended up paying for a curry !!
I also waon a trip to Cyprus for 5 days & had to pay travel to Stansted (we live near Bristol) transfers to the hotel, which we did by bus., & speninf moneyproud gran to 4 lovely boys and one little girl0 -
I normally check google maps to see how far away things are. For the river cottage thing that you won I wouldn't have entered unless it was within 15 miles of my home. 1 night trips are within 50 miles, 2 nights within 100. I also check the date it must be taken by as know I couldn't afford the extras for a break or holiday before March 2015.
I'm wanting a holiday abroard next summer, not bothered where as long as there's a beach and it's hot, so have been entering anything, even without flights included, as long as it would save me a significant amount of money than paying for a full holiday myself.
Though it irritates me a bit that companies can say 'win a holiday' then not include flights and transfers as to me a holiday includes these things. They should say 'a hotel stay in ...'Make £10 per day-

This thread takes me back!!!
Years ago exactly one week after paying for a family holiday to Florida got a WEM from Teletext holidays to say I had won a£2000 holiday to Malta (Changed my selection in the comp from Florida to Malta thinking I would have a better chance of winning!) - they let me give it to family - which paid for train fare and hotel to Gatwick.
2 Won 5 star weekend to Amsterdam a few weeks after coming home from you've guessed it Amsterdam!
Took my sister had a fab time in Holiday Inn not quite 5 star IMO but flights and hotel rooms in Amsterdam do not come cheap.
Not won any holidays in last decade of comping off and on - sometimes I go mad and enter 100's of comps in a month then don't do any for ages.
There is always tomorrow and I do believe that LWE (long white envelope) or WEM (winning e-mail) is just around the corner.
Isn't that the reason we all try??0
