Independent Scotland's FIAT currency - when should I move my savings?

If you were born after1983, then you qualify as a British Citizen at birth only if one of your parents had "Settled" status in the UK.
Not according to the UK government,
20.1.3 "British citizens by descent cannot transmit their citizenship to children born abroad except in the circumstances described in Chapter 4. British citizens otherwise than by descent automatically transmit their citizenship to children born abroad."
The next paragraph establishes that all people born in the UK are "British citizens otherwise than by descent". No exceptions whatsoever, the children of people born in the UK are British citizens.0 -
Since when has location determined ownership? Just keep them and charge the Scots for their use. Scotland would be in enough trouble with the markets if it renounced its share of the debt, it would become an international pariah if it forceably seized UK-owned assets.
I'm sure some things will move across the border if it is a yes vote. Things like military equipment and planes could move.
Systems run from rUK data centres wouldn't matter anyway, just turn off the data connection to them. Building a tax system from scratch with no data would be a big task!Remember the saying: if it looks too good to be true it almost certainly is.0 -

Oh silly jimjames! The words the mighty Alex, King of all Scots, would use are: It is our miltary equipment and planes, and we are keeping them! And they are our data centres, and we are keeping them! And if you force us to split out our planes and our data, that is your fault and you will pay for it! As it is the sovereign will of the scottish people to have what they want to have.0 -

Well a large amount of Scottish infrastructure, roads, buildings, schools, houses, oil infrastructure and so on was built with money borrowed by the UK government.
Also a lot of the debt is money paid out in benefits to Scottish citizens and wages to Scottish public sector workers.0 -
If Scotland refuses to accept its fair share of the national debt I quite like the idea of rUK getting to keep Edinburgh Castle to use as the embassy and Holyrood Palace the High Commissioner's residence.God save the King!
I'll save Winston Churchill, Jane Austen, J. M. W. Turner and Alan Turing.0 -
How childish! You overlook the fact the refusal to accept the debt is a direct result of a refusal to share the currency we have used. As a bargaining ploy on WM side, it was pants. But if WM want to be perverse, then refusal to accept the debt is a pretty good bargaining ploy.
Since Trident will get its marching orders, getting to 'keep' Edinburgh Castle is unlikely - they couldn't afford to pay the Council Tax anyway. As I recall, it is still owned by Historic Scotland with the army leasing a section of it so that ship has sailed.
Holyrood Palace - the queen will retain it until her demise, and then revert.0 -
Personally, even if we get a No vote, I have very little confidence that another referendum won't get forced through again in 10 years time.
My view of Scottish based banks and investment houses has been permanently scarred by the recent independence vote and all the uncertainties surrounding it.
I do not want any of my future investments to be placed in any institution that is subject to Scottish law (is registered in Scotland).
Maybe I'll be cutting off my nose to spite my own face but there's plenty of English based firms/funds will be glad to take my cash and I won't have to be concerned whether my cash will end up in another country.
Is this an over-reaction, possibly, will it make me feel better, definitely.
I agree with this. I have investments in Lloyd's, Halifax and Standard Life. In the event of a yes vote unless I see a pretty much immediate relocation South I will be transferring my investments to English based institutions. It will cost me a bit in lost interest but it will be worth it.
Oh and yes my investment decisions in future will not be in Scottish based institutions.0 -

This might turn out to be an absolutely miserable night for Yes....
Kellner at YouGov noting a swing from Yes voters to No, has just gone on Live TV saying he thinks it's a 99% certainty No have won.
Bigger turnout for No voters.
Economic issues swung the day, with the reality of the negatives sinking in during the last week, hence the 6 point swing in a week back to No on YouGov.
Also of note.... Twice as many No voters experienced objectionable behaviour from Yes campaigners, as was the case in reverse.
Looking good so far.

Belief in myths allows the comfort of opinion without the discomfort of thought.”
