If you do need a new fob and don't want to pay Mazda Stealer prices then make sure you get the same make. Afaik there are three manufacturers, Visteon, Siemens and Mitsubishi. The manufacturers name and model number are circled in this pic

I have used a chap in Preston who was very helpful (repaired two VW Golf Remote Key fobs for £15 each)
Essentialy you post the key to him, he refurbs it the same day and posts it back same or next day. Mine had some dry joints that needed resoldering.
