Is it true that you are now unable to travel to America if you have less then 6 months on your current passport? If so- we want to travel in September- have we left it to late to renew?

According to the US embassy, your British passport must be valid for 90 days (3 months) from the date on which you enter the USA.
http://www.usembassy.org.uk/cons_new/visa/niv/passport_validity.html:If traveling under the Visa Waiver Program, the passport must be valid for at least 90 days from the date on which the holder enters the United States. If not, the holder will be admitted until the expiration date on the passport. Note: Passport holders from Andorra, Brunei, and San Marino must be in possession of a passport valid for at least six months from the date of departure from the United States, even if traveling visa free under the Visa Waiver Program.
Where did you get the 6 month info from?0 -
And reading the second sentence quoted from the US website, it seems that so long as your passport will be valid for the whole of your intended stay, you will be fine.0

Why the sudden upsurge in these sort of threads? This space has been intentionally left blank0

Just as a matter of interest it is possible to renew your passport on a same day basis...providing you are prepared to queue up at a Passport Office. I would have thought a couple of months was plenty of time to renew through Post Office...though I guess this is the busy time of year and the Passport Office's shiny, expensive, new computer system wasn't exactly a howling success.Just because somebody is certain doesn't mean they are right!0

You can travel to the USA with one day left on your passport - but they will only let you stay one day !0

To Glenthebaker, could the upsurge be due to the favourable exchenge rate? Definately the right time to go over there!! :cool:0

No, No , No
don't even think about it.
Do NOT even consider trying to make this trip without having 6 months left on your passport.
The US government's requirement is of secondary importance.
Not worth the risk - trust me on thisHate and I do mean Hate my apple Mac Computer - wish I'd never bought the thing

Please stop using the word "of" when you actually mean "have" - it's damned annoying :mad:0 -
I think a lot of countries follow this 6 months rule now
I'm off to Jamaica next week and in our tickets it stresses that we must have 6 months left on our passport after we return to the UK
It was the same when my parents went to the Dominican Republic0 -
anywhere outside these islands you should have more than 6 months left on your passportHate and I do mean Hate my apple Mac Computer - wish I'd never bought the thing
