If only my OH said the same when I had mine!! It was a great runner0 -
I agree with one of the posters, for a proper car, a drivers, car get a BMW. Solid cars, reliable if serviced properly and most importantly excellent driving dynamics and power, being a rear wheel drive.
My first ever car was a 1998 BMW 323i. Do not get a sub par car such as the Ford or Vauxhall. Only real men drive BMW's.
If you do not prefer a BMW get a Lexus IS200/IS250 or Honda Civic 1.8 VTEC0 -
If Insurance is going to be high:
VW up!
Free £1000 deposit contribution when purchased through Volkswagen PCP finance
Free 3 year / 30,000 mile service plan worth £199 when purchased through Volkswagen PCP finance*
12 months' free insurance with free Volkswagen Ensurance0 -
I'd second the Jazz as a practical little car - I've got an 08 plate one I use for commuting (we've got a bigger car for family holidays etc that gets used sparingly as the second car if I'm out). Fits 4 in fine, and has a decent boot space (which also expands if you put the back seat down - neighbours moved a fridge in theirs!).
I've got the smaller 1.2 model which is fairly basic (no air con etc) but I prefer cars that way as there is less to go wrong. I fairly consistently get about 40mpg out of it even commuting in traffic.Adventure before Dementia!0 -
Gotta put another vote forward for the Honda Jazz. It is literally so good it's quite boring. Plus you can pick up a decent one for a little over a grand and it'll keep on going forever.0

I dont mind HP, PCP whatever really I just need a car for commuting and a run around really...
Would definitely start pricing insurance first. In group 1 is the skoda fabia but has had engines that have had belts or chains, depending on the engine spec at that time

Some cars like my honda cost 15 years ago £430 to change the timing belt at a dealer. Apparently it is £800 for a galaxy. So get a car with a timing chain.
Don't be trolled by others who think "Real men drive BMWs.". Real men know what is in their pockets, keep their eyes open and look into the future, and cut their cloth according to their requirements. One should ask ozmusafir if his father bought is, or is it a company car? Bet the other car is a mini from that estate agency often seen around London.0
