Did they live in London? If so I can't fathom why they'd take a year to get to Battersea to look for their dog.

I thought they said she'd been there for 3 months. Not a year.

Just googled to check and the answer appears a little confusing.

"Despite a three-month wait in kennels for a new family. Roxy was reunited with her owners who lost her over a year ago."
All shall be well, and all shall be well, and all manner of things shall be well.

Pedant alert - it's could have, not could of.

I take that to mean the family left her with the dog sitter a year ago. Who disappeared with the dog.

Whoever had the dog either turned her over to battersea or (more likely) dumped her when they no longer wanted/needed her and she was picked up as a stray and was in their centre for three months.

Had they microchipped there no saying if they'd have gotten her back before she arrived with the centre. But she spent three months in there when she didn't need to all for the sake of a few £ for a chip. Poor baby. But at least she is now home and not facing a longer stay or even worse of they couldn't rehabilitate her. The owners and the dog are lucky they spotted her on their site.

But it's all too common. I'll be honest. Of all the dog owners I know personally only one has their dog chipped. The general attitude seems to be 'oh I can't be bothered'

  • I couldn't agree more. I got worried because the vet made us wait for our puppy to grow a bit before she was microchipped. I was terrified she would get lost and we would have no way of tracing her.

I read a post on Facebook recently from a couple who left their pedigree dogs with a dog sitter, who then claimed the dogs had run away while the couple were on holiday. The dog sitter had forged their papers and sold them on.

Dogs seem to be increasingly seen as a commodity, a quick way to make some money. Disturbing.

vets should always scan ANY new cat/dog brought to time for a first visit. Even if "owners" insist their new pet is not chipped - vets SHOULD scan to see if the dog/cat is not stolen/missing from somewhere.

People may get a cat/dog not even knowing it is reported stolen/missing from original owners

My friend thought her dog had gone walkabout, it went missing. She got a phone call 4 and a half months later from a vet in Norwich. It had been found wandering in a distressed and filthy state. Turns out it had been stolen and used for breeding. Friend had to make a round trip of 500 miles to get it back. Good job it was chipped.

Yes, good the dog was chipped. Pity it was not neutered/spayed or this would not happen.

On Zara's collar tag AND on her microchip she has "spayed" - can not tell you how many times I was approached by various men asking me if I want to bread her as they "have a great male". I normally ask them if they have a sister/cousin and when they ask why - I tell them "because i know a great male" and that is normally the end of conversation.
