For the love of dogs, micro chip your pet.

Anyone watch this last night?
There was a rottie cross who'd been there for a year as it was scared of new people and growled when anyone came for a look so no one wanted it.
Then a family turned up who thought it was theirs and had been looking for it all that time. It took one look at them and hurled itself into their arms.
And the back story? They'd gone on holiday, left the dog with a dog sitter and on their return found that sitter and dog had vanished without trace.

Moral of the story - only use reputable sitters that you've fully checked out (my suspicion is that they didnt) and always always get them micro chipped. That dog could have been spared a year in Battersea if they'd made the effort.
All shall be well, and all shall be well, and all manner of things shall be well.

Pedant alert - it's could have, not could of.

Don't have a telly - never time to watch on iplayer /demand thingy, but I do miss this programme.

All of mine are microchipped as soon as they can be.

OMG - the poor dog could have been PTS, so good it had a happy ending...

Zara has a collar with a tag and a microchip (tag on collar says she is microchipped).

When I go away - she only ever stays with people I have known for years..

All of mine are chipped can't imagine anything worst know your pet is out there somewhere but you may never find them all for the sake of a 2 minute job that often vets will do for free

I cried! (I am an utter wuss, I admit it) Just thinking about how happy the dog must have been to see his family again, after a year, is likely to set me off again.

    Microchipping is an absolute must.

All of mine are chipped and every year when they're in for boosters I get vet to scan for chip and make sure it hasn't migrated and is still being picked up ok.

Mine are chipped. And every time I go the vets I ask them to check all is okay with it.

My eldest dogs must have moved because I used to be able to feel it under his skin but can't now. But the vet never has a problem finding it. They were both chipped as soon as they could be.

My youngest was chipped for free by the local dog warden. No idea how he knew we had dogs but he knocked one day out of the blue and asked if they were chipped and if not he could chip them. Eldest already was but Bailey was only tiny at the time. About a week after his first jab. So I didn't even have to pay for his.

I also keep their chip details on my phone so I have access to the info at all times.

I'm a member of a Facebook group for lost and found pets. A woman lost her cat two years ago (suspected stolen as it was a Persian) and this week got a call from the local RSPCA, who said the cat had been taken in to see them with an upset tummy, they had scanned it and it had come up with her details!

I wish it was compulsory (I know it soon will be for dogs, but not cats).

Did they live in London? If so I can't fathom why they'd take a year to get to Battersea to look for their dog.
  • If they had cared about their dog it would have been microchipped. Theres no excuses really. If they had money for a holiday then they could have afforded the chip and to put their dog into a reputable kennel.
I'd have been too ashamed to be filmed if it was me.

CD is a Dog's Trust dog so came microchipped. He also wears a collar with a tag with our address, phone number and stating he's microchipped. So far, touch wood, we haven't had to rely on the microchip but the collar tag came in handy when CD lost his collar in a field. Another dog walker found it and returned it. Sometimes people are very nice :j

When we go away he either stays with his dog walker who does home boarding, or if he's full then he stays with the home boarder recommended by the dog walker - his dogs stay there when he's away.
