Another thing which just came to my mind....about 4 months after the other insurer denied liability (7 months after the accident) I received a letter from them saying that they were sorry to hear about my accident and offering to arrange car repair. The car was already repaired 4 months earlier and my insurer told me to ignore the letter as it cant be used as an admission of liability !!!

So considering that the whole matter happened nearly 16 months ago does that mean that the hire company had their money? and from who?
That is why you need the hire agreement which will show who is responsible for paying.

Presumably they have been paid. But it's irrelevant to the issue.

If its credit hire then no, they wont have been paid until liability is established. This is part of the justification for the higher hire rates.

Sometimes they never get their money back as the TP is uninsured etc

But I am not sure that their rate was high as I found that they charged £615 for 21 days hire which is about £30/day

In #26 you reported that the bill has been paid by your "insurer"!

the cost for our 3 weeks hire was just over £600 (so normal rate) and all paid by our insurer....
  • If your insurer paid for the hire car, there is no right of recovery for these charges against you, unless you were in breach of your policy terms and conditions (such as non-disclosure of penalty points etc).

Have your insurers told you in words of one syllable that they have paid the rental car charges themselves in full?

If they have not settled rental charges at all, you most likely were provided with a credit hire vehicle.
