St marys island has ne bridge on or off with security cameras so its nice there

small parade of shops with a nice pub called the ship in trades right on the dock, Dockside Designer outlet and an Odeon cinema and assortmant of restuarants. Wainscotts a bit more remote with LOADS of new houses going up

think there are good and bad parts of Sevenoaks , Tunbridge is nice

most of Maidstone is good , about the same journey time on the train to London

I have heard bad things about Gillingham, I went on a night out there about 20 years ago and urm, yes. It reminded me of Romford which isn't a good thing.:D

20 years ago..... it's even worse now!

I must remember that "Money Saving" is not buying heavily discounted items that I do not need. :hello:

Hi I dont know Kent well but I would certainly recommend Stanford-le-Hope/Corringham in Essex it is not at all chavvy. Its houses are reasonably priced its close to station c2c line. Its has a lovely community feel to it.

One of my in-laws lives there and it is a very quiet nice area but I think you need a car (or at least in the bit I've seen) and we don't drive.

St Mary's Island is very pleasant, but don't know Wainscot very well

If you do come over to have a look, make sure you go to Chatham and Gillingham town centres.......it could be a case of out of the frying pan into the fire. I say no more.
Wainscott has some very rough elements. It is on the edge of Strood which is even worse than Chatham and Gillingham for shops. To be frank I would never recommend Medway for someone with £300,000 who is trying to escape chavs.

Villages with railways we looked at that are not too bad...

Higham. Sole Street. Meopham. Sutton at Hone. Charing. Staplehurst. Lenham. The last two are coming under severe housing development pressure.

Towns I would consider. Maidstone. West Malling. Whitstable. Faversham. Sevenoaks. Tonbridge. Headcorn.

    Faversham looks nice on RM.

Wow, I just saw a 3 bed detached house for £270k.

3 bedroom detached house for sale in Lower Road, Faversham, Kent, ME13

You get so much more for your money outside London.

From memory the further west you go in Faversham the nearer you get to Bysing Wood. Check the OFsted reports for the local primary school. It is not a great area.

Although you will not need good schools, the reports give a good indication to the area. I think Abbey Street is considered one of the better roads, but there will be others, which shows you really need to get to know your target areas.

Faversham itself has great rail connections, cinema, and shops.

Tunbridge Wells, Yalding, and Faversham are nice.

Chelsfield, Petts Wood, Chislehurst etc., are nice but pricey.

I would steer clear of any Medway Town, and places like Dymchurch/Hythe - cheap, but not very nice, generally.

If you think Essex is chavvy you should take a walk down Tonbridge High Street, I have lived there :(

Tunbridge Wells is a nightmare traffic-wise Maidstone too, and not much different to Romford imo.
