Son 16 in full time education

I told tax credits in May my son was staying in collage and I received a award notice at the time showing payments continuing for him.
It didn't need to be recalculated in September because it was done and dusted in May.0 -
It is actually VERY SCARY how people are completely stuffed if one single benefit or tax credit payment is a few days late.
It's quite horrifying actually.(•_•)

He is 17 starting his second year of collage but it is a different course from last year.
Doesn't it work the same for 17 year olds ?0 -
People already tell HMRC about their child staying on in education before they're certain. The only difference I'm suggesting is that HMRC apply the change as soon as they're told rather than wait till September. The award won't be affected pre-September anyway.
In both cases there'll be an overpayment if the child doesn't stay on and the parent doesn't update HMRC promptly. The difference is that where the parent's prediction was correct, there will be no interruption in payments.
I knew my son was definately going to college in September and that is why I told them that in May!0 -

Yes it is horrifying, that some people are in this position through no fault of their own - You don't know the circumstances that surround that person - How can anyone Judge, you have obviously never been in that position!0
