Yes thats exactly what I do, I budget, I work out what I need to spend and on what, like today for instance, I knew I was getting CTC today and budgeted accordingly so a bill would be paid tomorrow.

The CTC paid less than half of what I normally have so now I have had to cancel the DD tomorrow because I am not lucky enough to have savings to fall back on.

Coincidently it should be noted that this week kids are back to school, plus with other things, bills are certainly a lot more higher than what a single person pays.

For some people it isn't just a few days though, it can be a few weeks depending on how they get paid, how long it takes to process etc.

Given tax credits is paid to the lowest income households/families, not everyone has the option to save any of it.
all i am saying is those with children are better off than those without.
and too many find themselves with a 16+ year old without realising that their days on benefit are numbered.
whatever way you see it ... the days of generous child relayed bbenefirts seem numbered ... so tghe wuicker that parents learn not to rely on their children for income ... the better

Erm, even working parents can receive the family element of working tax credit and so do people that get child benefit, working or not, they still receive extra income to support their children and to pay related expenses. Or is it ok for them and not for the unemployed?

Such a bold statement to make saying people use their children for benefits (thats how it reads to me anyway)

This thread seems to be taking a wrong turn

Can I ask if anyone which a child that's turned 16 has had there award notice back yet? or how long it takes? we are in the same boat payment renewed end of June and stopped from the August 31st which was OK but without an award notice I can't get him his school bus pass this year, it's a subsidised school bus so pass's not issued without the paperwork in place.and im losing work with having to run him to and back from college. we live rural so no other way to get him to school.

Won't the previous award notice do? The only change would be saying his child element is continuing, but if it's for the school they know that anyway!

They only started to update it on 1st as per previous posts so I doubt anyone has had their new awards as yet.
Do you know how they process it - for instance do they do people paid weekly first then 4-weekly, do they do people with a payment date near the start of the month first etc?

They don't have a previous award notice as he was ineligible for the college bus last year he moved into higher education a year early at 15, as the one we had ended before the start of term on August 31st was unacceptable, 3 years ago the eldest moved from secondary to college it was a seamless transition with TC and had no issues the college admin must have just become very pedantic this year.
  • Horrified to what I'm reading. Us with kids are not better off. We get enough to cover their expenses as well as ourselves. They have to eat too, keep warm, keep clean and all the day to day normal stuff! Our bills go up twice maybe 3 times faster than those without kids! So anyway, back to the other convo:
Back in June I had a letter from child benefit who informed me to get in touch with them if my son is likely to be startin college so I rang them. The lady on the phone said that CTC will be updated at the same time. She also told me that they both would continue now that i had informed them. So you can imagine yesterday's suprised when I found £119 short in my bank. My son does have ASD/Asperges so the helpful amount was also stopped. My budgeting always ends up in a way where I use my own money for his aids and help and the CTC is always used for a good food shop. Considering mine had already been spent on a new college support and extra communication help for him for college that food money had dissappeared! So shocked as I had 2 younger children to care for too so I've had to do minimum planning and budgeting spread between the 3.
I called tax credits and explained I had already informed CB in June who also updated CTC. They said they do apologise but they system is recalculating. I said I appreciate that but it doesn't help at all so I asked how long would it be before the new award letter drops thru my door. The reply? "About 2 weeks"! With not being able to hurry it along myself there was nothing I could do. She also told me it would be sorted soon and there "may be" an extra payment in there too. Well after reading this thread i dont know what to expect now as many have had it spread out. I was very miffed at the fact there was no warning this would happen. So what if people get angry if they are warned early? At least they have good time to prepare and TC have covered their backs with preparing people instead of suddenly dropping regular day to day lives in a mess.
How long does this usually take? I'm not one for asking for crisis loans but I'm prepared to if it's gonna take a long time.

I am just checking my account each day, because it is a nightmare to get through on the telephone. It will probably appear in your account and you will receive the notification letter a few days later.
