Mobilephonesdirect asking for my passport

Hi

I bought a new N95 from Mobilephonesdirect a week ago. The phone is on Vodafone network. They just called me and asked me to fax my passport and a utility bill to an untraceable number which they say is vodafone. I have never been asked for this before - can someone tell me if this is standard practice? The fax number starts with a 01635.

    hi

i think they need some sort of proof maybe which the networks do sometimes ask for verification.

a colleague i know had been asked to do the same thing and double checked with fax no details online for confirmation and that was with mobilephonesontheweb.com

    have you asked them y?

I assume you bought the phone on a cashback deal? Have you tried phoning up vodafone to ask if they require additional confirmation? If you have to you can even tell them about the mobilephones bit, I was talking to Voda the other day doing research before I take out a contract and they as good as told me they didn't care who you got the contract from as long as they get their money. At least this way you'll know if the request is indeed from the Voda side or whether it's a mobilephones admin thing.

Know me for who I am, not for who I say I am.
  • Hi
It turns to be legitimate request. I was suspicious because the sales person at MPD asked me to fax my passport etc through to a number without specifying an order number. It's a Vodafone requirement.

    Thanks
