  • Hello AlwaysHappy. Thanks for the lovely words of wisdom. I'm sure your doing fantastic as well. We will both save a fortune this year over at the Xmas savings thread.

Right, had an ok week. It's getting very chilly out there. I've been working non stop, getting bits and bobs done at work in time for the busy spell over xmas. No overtime though

Anyway, spent £21.70 on food from tesco on the 21st. This was just the essentials. Also had to fuel up again so that was another £42.50. God the fuel bill is crippling me :(

However there is some good news! I got my payslip :) I got £190in overtime for all my hard work last month. My wage was about £1840. Completely delighted. This will cover my cost for going on holiday and the rest of my wage will go on bills and Xmas presents :rotfl:

I've sent some of my family members a few things I would like for xmas. This will they can get easy presents and I get something which helps me out, not just junk or unwanted presents :D

I am running the "Save a Pound a day" thread over in the the debt free wannabe boards. To come and join us click HERE

I've got a few days off now and I'm going to chill out.

  • End of November update

As per my last update it's been quite a good month for me. Managed to save a whopping £701.70. That included just shy of £200 in overtime though, but I thoroughly deserved that! My fuel for the month was £129.01 and my spending came to £187.43, both well under budget.

So as off today 30/11/14, my grand total of savings is £3709.91. As per the usual routine this will go dramatically down throughout the month as I have lots of Xmas shopping to do.

Going to pop into our nearest town on Tuesday and get £200 worth of Euros for my trip away. So excited :D

It's December tomorrow eek! Exciting times ahead. I hope all you viewers are well!

ISA rates are awful...what rate are you earning on the £1000 that you put in?

Have you considered a current account with 5% credit interest on balances of up to £2000? TSB offer that.

So put your savings in there along with your wages, then you should make about £5-£7ish per month...

    Ciao for now.

Thanks so much for the kind words. It's very much appreciated. :D
We are off to Paris for 4 days. We fly out Monday and back Thursday so it's enough time away without spending a fortune. :rotfl:

Won't be spending my money on crap though. Might smuggle some Xmas presents back.

Hello karlie88. I believe im only getting 1% in my ISA. Very poor I know. I did consider the higher paying interest accounts but I made myself a promise to stick to the one current account until my credit file improves a bit. I know the number of current accounts don't really matter but I just wanted the one after having a bit of a messy time previously.

On the plus side my ISA is with my current account holder and its easy to see both accounts and transfer money etc. The fact that my savings are so small brings me pleasure to know that I'm not really missing that much interest anyway.

Maybe when I'm in a stronger position financially il have a different view but for now I'm stuck where I am :)

Thanks for the info afd insight though. You really do have to think why are isas so low it current accounts are reaching 5%?

  • Just a quick update as it's been a busy week.

Christmas has come at the wrong time. With saving over £700 in both October and November I was on a bit of a roll, but not anymore..

Since 1st December, I've already spent a fortune. Most of this is on Xmas presents which I budgeted for, but I hate seeing so many transactions on the account. It's like I'm not in control..

On the 1st I transferred over £31 to my ISA as part of my £ a day challenge. This gets it out the way early in the month. Also had a little spend in tesco coming to £5.93, which obviously wasn't needed.

Phone bill came out on the 3rd which came to £22.30 and my rent came out also. Purchased my Euros which came to £203.07.

There is lots of Paypal transactions which amount to £346.92. Now this is for most of my families presents so I'm nearly finished but there are a few more to get. I will be getting some cash off my sibling to pay for half of these as we are doing joint presents.

Me and the other half are viewing a house tomorrow so fingers crossed its nice. We went to the solicitors today and got a price for their services. Plus the stamp duty change has really helped us and saved us a chunk of money. :D

Will update over the weekend as to how the viewing goes :)

  • A very important update for me.

My partner and I went to view a house over the weekend. A bit small, but very homely and we could both see us living there.

Went back for a 2nd viewing today with the parents to see their views as we obviously don't know what things and problems to look for :p

In the end, my partner gave them a verbal offer of the asking fixed price which is valid until Friday (when we return from Paris). This gives them throughout the week to decide whether to take us up on the offer or stick with the buyer who's offer was already accepted but he has been dragging his feet for weeks over funds. They are happy to chuck him and go with us if he doesn't produce the funds this week so fingers crossed. :D

The problem for me is I'm wanting specifically to pay half of EVERYTHING other than the deposit. I will put the equal deposit into the house when my loans are paid off so everything is fair and halved. Obviously half the mortgage/bills/food will be expensive every month but I have to squeeze it in. I'm also paying half the solicitors and stamp duty so my cash is tight at the moment.

It's a big stepping stone for is if we do get it. A big financial burden for me but it will be worth it. I also have to bloody save for furniture and moving in goods etc. Now my heads a bit more screwed on I'm determined to pay for my half as I'm independent. We shall see how things go :)

Right in terms of finance, I spent £25 odd in tesco on food stuff and then another £20 withdrew in cash for cinema. £24.50 spent for fuel and another £3.79 in the local store. Gym membership came out today which is the standard 19.00. Need to stop spending

Anyway, last update from me for a week. In a few hours we leave for the airport and get the early flight to Paris. It's going to be fantastic ;)

Sounds like your doing a really good job and its important to save as much as possible before you get a house as it can be tighter then! Good luck with the house you have made an offer on!
