    I hope I'm remembering this right :o

If the unit is on wheels, it doesn't require planning permission as such.
  • How about calling them and saying "Um, I think you have made a mistake, please tremove this from outside my property"?

I think you're right. But if the unit is on public highway (including verges and footpaths etc) then it is an illegal obstruction and the council will have powers to remove it (although most councils won't because doing so can be a nightmare).

I'd personally call the company and ask them to come and collect their property which they appear to have left behind....if they don't then you'd be happy to dispose of it for them or place it somewhere off the highway and out of sight for them to collect at their convenience :)
Common sense?...There's nothing common about sense!
  • Seems like you've already taken the appropriate action by notifying the Council, personally I'd have used the 'fly tipping' option to report it. Yes, by all means put a bin bag over it as well, that will be quite satisfying while you wait for the Council to haul it away without causing damage.
Seen it all, done it all, can't remember most of it.
  • It does need Council permission and councils would never give permission for that type of advertising.
Best thing to do would be to take it in and hide it in the shed or something. If they come knocking for it, say you saw a Council van come and take it away.
Then in a few weeks time, give it to the rag & bone man.
