How did you feel before your wedding?

My wedding was many years ago. My husband and I were quite poor and it was a registry office 'do' with us providing the catering ourselves in our new house. It was a nice, sunny day in October and I remember feeling moderately calm until the actual ceremony (which, being taken by the registrar, was short and sweet anyway) when I had a massive attack of nerves and nearly fainted. I was thinking, 'What am I doing?' This lasted a few minutes at most and the rest of the day went with a blast. It was most enjoyable. My husband drank a lot of Greene King ale and crashed out for a sleep. At eight o' clock at night I went upstairs and asked him whether he wanted to miss his wedding party at which point he found it politic to come back downstairs and join his guests. Hilarious. We danced to Sting and The Police and had a fantastic time. I think the whole thing:- licence, wedding cake and all cost us about £250. I can certainly recommend 'cheap and cheerful' for fun. Spending the money on the mortgage and not the party set us up financially and we have never looked back.
Enjoy yours! 35 years later I have not one regret.0 -
My husband and I eloped - just two close friends as witnesses at Registry Office, then a lovely meal at an Italian restaurant. No stress, no expense, no worries. We did have a "wedding party" a couple of months later at our home. Great fun and stress free.0

I can honestly say I didn't feel nervous until the moment I stood outside the church with my Dad, about to go in. I surrounded myself with family in the morning and kept busy. Having lots of people round might annoy some people, but was nice to have a normal chaotic household - made the morning seems more normal and I didn't have time to think or get nervous!0

I was very, very nervous, for the simple reason that I really don't do gatherings of any sort. We only had a small wedding, by most peoples' standards, but being in a room of 21 people was quite nerve-wracking for me. The only relative in attendance was DH's sister (his other sister refused to come) - all the rest were friends.
To calm me down before we left, DH sat me down with the T£l£graph crossword to do!:rotfl:
We were both "recycled" and had been living together for over a year, so we simply turned up together to the venue (a hotel that had just been licensed for civil ceremonies) in my DH's aging BMW, we had the "legal bit" with the registrar, then we had a Handfasting (Pagan ceremony) complete with broomstick to step over.
It's our 11th anniversary this Saturday.:oIf your dog thinks you're the best, don't seek a second opinion.;)0 -
I wasn't nervous - just happy and looking forward to our day. However, if I had have known that the driver of the Rolls took my husband to the wrong church initially and his family who were travelling by coach had almost broken down - it very nearly came to a standstill , I might have felt otherwise!:rotfl:0

I wasn't nervous at all, and couldn't understand why anyone would....until I put on my dress and then I became a nervous idiot. It wasn't the getting married that was putting knots in my stomach, it was the prospect of being the centre of attention, all eyes on me, potentially doing things wrong etc... My legs were shaking up until the moment I saw my fiance and suddenly all the fears evaporated and I had a great time for the rest of the day.
We will be celebrating our first year anniversary soon, can't believe it's been one year, can't believe it's only been one year!!0 -
Congratulations to you both. Wishing you good health and much happiness for the future
My wife is Swedish and our wedding took place in a small church in the village where she was born. It was a traditional swedish wedding and my biggest worry was that having very little command of the swedish language, I would put my foot in it at some point. I needn't have worried so much -everything was fine. However, one thing I did find strange was that when the groom leaves the room at the reception, other guys would then kiss the bride. It wasn't just a peck on the cheeks either lol. Anyway, we've lots of happy memories of that day0 -
Hope it all went well?
I was horrendously nervous on the day - hubby to be finally pursuaded me to have a strong drink but I wish I'd had about 3 instead to calm me down!!
When the registrar asked me to hold my hand up to get my wedding ring put on, everyone laughed because I was shaking so much! Hubby thought it was lovely though, he realised it meant so much to me at that point!
We've just celebrated our 25th wedding anniversary this year.0 -

Me too! Pacing up & down the house with my Dad waiting for the car...but before that had a nice chilled morning & even found a bit of time to sew the finishing touches to my outfit!0 -
I was strangely calm! Everyone was commenting on how calm I was! Lol! I was excited, but not jumping around etc. I think I was just relaxed- I wasn't worried about what could go wrong, just had a what will happen will happen approach. (Little things did go wrong but I didn't care, they didn't really matter.):T0
