I know I've posted twice about this already but I am still desperately trying to fix my printer - I REALLY cant afford to buy a new one.
Nb. my printer displays paper jam message but there is definately no paper in there - however on close inspection I have noted a heck of alot of black ink on the insides and yellow goo which i can only assume is from the colour ink cartridge - could exploding ink cartridges be the cause of the problem? (ooo.. I feel like a techie Ms Marple) - and if so, how the b'jeez am I going to get all the ink out? and also, I need to replace the catridges if this is the case but I'd rather find out if the printer is going to work first - two cartridges will almost be the same price as a new printer - Help!!!! Thankyou!
I've made my debts bite-size too depressing to look at all at once so am handling them one at a time - first up Graduate Loan £1720 paid off! only £280 to go!!!

Sorry if this sounds obvious but if two cartridges cost nearly as much as a new printer why not buy the new printer - not only do you get two new inks but 12 months warranty aswell! :)

Do you use refill inks or original.

If you use refills visit a national ink cartridge refill shop and whilst chatting about your refills they might offer to clean it for you - They did with mine.

That WOULD be great - I have great faith in the combined MSE might!
Spec is I need a basic printer - it doesnt need to do any fancy tricks, it doesnt even need to print in colour, - just needs to print out letters and documents on to A4 paper. I will sacrifice frilly technology for endurance any day! My current printer is a canon i250 it was about £50 from argos when I bought it and I was hoping it would last - but its only just over a year old. So in terms of budget, the cheaper the better!

I have a Samsung Laser Printer ML1520 (I think!!!) These are £49.99 in PC world at the moment. Excellent for letters and stuff - only prints in black and white though. - Comes with a 1000 page cartridge. This can be re filled ith a refill pack costing £7.99 to give another 3000 pages.

Or if your wanting a colour printer I'm sure theres plenty of people with the free Dell printer thats currently available with a umber of Dell packages. If no one on MSE has one - there'll be plenty on e-bay.

If you're a customer with amazon, and it's easy to become one if you're not...

They offer a range of printers on

    this page ---> http://www.amazon.co.uk

and use the search for "printer".

Some are under £40.00 and so the price of each means that you'll get free (3-day [if you choose it]) postage and delivery too. Faster if you really need it.

    Hope that helps.

Eliza. I have a canon i455 which is similar to your i255. I'm surprised that you say 2 lots of ink cost as much as a new printer. I think you use BCI - 24 (same as me) and I have got compatibles for as little as £2 each . Even the originals come to less then £5 each.
I have found that the Print head occasionally blocks up and that causes all kinds of problems. I suggest that you remove your ink cartridges, they your print heads (see the beginning of yur quick start guide) and see if there is ink lying about. Clean up everything as best you can . (You can buy a print head cleaning cartridge from local print shops if you wish) and try again.
    Good Luck

Thanks, I am desperate to get some work done, so am going to go to PC world this eve and get printer or argos.
and then will spend eve trying out unblocking printer cartridges - I can always take printer back if it works!

I have a Canon i455 and the black ink has recently started producing dodgy printing :P No problems with colour, just when I print in black there are very noticeable white stripes.

Have had a look at my print head, no messy ink about... replaced my compatible black ink cartridge twice already :( Have always used this cartridge so I don't think that's the problem...

Any ideas what might be causing the white stripes please?? More importantly, how do I fix it/get rid of the white stripes?

    thanks in advance!
