I just offered a solution to the delivery problem and got insulted for my trouble.

You got insulted because you were so rude, not for the first time. You cannot understand the difference between:

" most teachers take half the year off sick anyway" and

"55% of teachers had AT LEAST one period of sickness absence last year."

If you think that the second statement is evidence for the first then you did not learn much at school did you. I suspect you would blame your teachers though rather than accept any responsibility for yourself.

Oh and yes, that was another insult.

Apologies to the OP for not assisting with your problem but you have had some good advice already.

Government stats show that 55% of teachers had AT LEAST one period of sickness absence last year.

The figure is actually slightly higher (57%),

but for some strange reason, you forgot to include this bit of information:
For those teachers taking sickness absence the average number of days lost was 7.9. This is a reduction from the average of 8.1 days which were lost in the previous year.

So less than 8 days per year. Not exactly "half the year" is it?
