Comp prizes as gifts...

My family don't mind, i think my sister was a bit funny at first but now she is getting into comping herself after seeing what ive won! lol year before last I added up small beauty wins throughout the year to add to a hamper for xmas for my sister which she liked and she wouldn't have had half the stuff had I not have won it, she would have had a much smaller hamper with less expensive bits, so I see it as a bonus!
Im trying my hardest to win a ps4 for my bf for xmas, i deffo can't afford one, but i know its something he'd love, and he would probably prefer me to win it than pay out a few hundred pounds anyway, in fact i imagine if he did open a ps4 on xmas morning he would look at me and gasp "i hope you won this!" lol
I don't think people should react negatively if they are given a win as a present, normally prizes are nicer expensive bits and pieces too so probably worth more than you would normally spend on them, so they can't complain!0 -
One year my parents presents were nearly all things I'd won and they were told this, they had great fun opening them no offence was taken even at the deodorant!0

I save wins all year for Xmas and birthdays, I have a massive pile already and hope to add it to it espec with advents, I only buy for immediate family and a few friends kids so never have issues with unwanted gifts as they are all appropriate for recipient, Hubby used to give me a £1500 every xmas to sort out the pressies, I haven't needed a penny of him for the last few years as I have won it all, Even managed to win vouchers which covered all the food last year .
I am a prolific comper so my ways wouldn't suit everyone but for me they are fine, the odd prize which I win which is surplus I sell and use the money to put into the family coffers, makes me feel I'm contributing.
Everyone around me knows I comp and have never moaned bar 16 year old son who went into brat mode when he asked for cash for some weird label of clothing days after his birthday, he was reminded he had over a grands worth of gifts for his 16th and would have to earn what he wanted. His response was well you won that stuff and you saved money not buying it for me? the response back was you are banned off all electricals for a week till you appreciate what you have and how lucky you are. Never had any issues since.

Seems to me that you're all going wrong in TELLING people you've won these things! Silence is your friend in this situation:rotfl::rotfl:

I've always had a positive reaction to anything I've given friends and family. I don't always tell people I've won, My friend had a baby last year I won a bumbo and went round with that, She was over the moon with the present (didn't tell her i won it). Then I won a child's tent and I thought I would see if she wanted that, Told her I won it and did she want it. She was made up.
I choose when to tell people now. Was a friends birthday the other month added some benefit make up i won to the voucher I bought her, didn't tell her i won it.
My friends and family have always enjoyed their treats and I only ever give things to people who I know will want them. If anyone was funny or off with me they wouldn't get anything more.0 -
I completely agree with everyone who has said that they have recieved a positive responce from people when you tell that you've won a certain item and they then either get it for an occasion or as a general present! My family/friends definitely appreciate the effort that I put into winning the presents they get and exactly as Blulu said it is so much easier to buy certain things than it would be to win them.
My family and I even have a running joke throughout the year where they give me a "list" of things they want me to win for their birthday/christmas. So far I would love to win a playstation 4 for both my boyfriend and my brother, my mum wants a trip to iceland to see the northern lights and my dad wants a laptop!! They certainly arent easy to pleaseits all done light heartidly though and for me, the thought of winning one of those items or something else they want, no matter how small, increases my enjoyment of comping, especially when i win a high value item as i wouldn't have been able to have afforded to buy it for them but i've still managed to win it and give it to them, i find that extremely satisfying

I've given away some prizes that I've won and they've been gratefully received.
Is this thread asking though whether you would give someone any prize you'd won for Christmas instead of buying something especially for them? I'm not sure I'd do that...
"Oh, just what I've always wanted! A £250 voucher for Mammoth Mattress!"
