Norwegian flights to the US

Norwegian have announced a major increase in their 'low cost' long haul flights from Gatwick from next summer. Flights to JFK New York go from 3 to 6 a week, Los Angeles is up to 4 times a week but Fort Lauderdale in Florida is down to once a week due to poor sales. This is not a recommendation, it will be a long time before I board a Dreamliner operated by any airline but hopefully by next year their delays will have reduced and if you book early, there are some good prices

The flights appear in OAG timetables, it will probably be a short while before they are on sale, usually 330 days before departure. As regards Dreamliners, if you don't know the problems, it is best you stay that way.

Shame about the poor choice of destinations and the lack of a US partner.

Are they still having the problems they had last couple months? just shy of 48hr delay from LAX-LGW....would NOT recommend for long haul...
Their euro operations however are supposed to be really good.
Change is inevitable...nothing stays the same forever

Did some Kayak searches today on traditional airlines for April and there are some great fares around. These offer a better fit for the trip I was thinking of and maximise available time off work. With a bad reputation, not so good fit and not being cheap enough, I think I'll give Norwegian long haul a miss, again.

  • We've been planning a Florida trip over the past week, for May 2015. Having been through the entertaining process of various online travel agents I came across Norwegian on 1 site so investigated further.

Turns out they have just announced weekly flights to Orlando Int, I believe to replace the dropped US flights.

We used Norwegian last year when my wife flew to Sweden, and she was very impressed with the experience. Further research appears to show their feedback is improving as time goes by and more aircraft are coming on stream. They now have 7 Dreamliners in the fleet with 1 more due in 2015. The bad feedback is very bad, :(, where as the good is very positive :D.

So, Orlando appears to start flights in April and we are booked for May, at the moment the flights are showing as £235 each way. I've booked for 5 of us to fly return, with the plus package (includes food/seat reservations/baggage) for £2,681 - which I think is pretty good. I appreciate they are 'no frills' and everything else will cost extra - but at that price we'll plan accordingly. It's about half the price of a majority of the other direct flights we were looking at.

I'm looking forward to flying on the Dreamliner - they are a new aircraft and while they are getting some bad press, since the battery issues plenty are now being operated in service daily with no issues.

Will be interested to see how it all pans out, as hopefully some of their long haul trials will have challenges will have cleared through.
  • That's a very good price for Orlando, but given the choice Thomson operate the dreamliner on (almost) the same route, but with a much better track record, and more legroom.
