Cheap first and second date ideas?

As the title says… any ideas for us singletons?
I’m a guy, I tend to do rounds if I’m on a first date, but being a guy I end up paying most of the drinks. Does anyone have any good place in London or good tricks for not spending too much? It bugs you a bit when you go on a date with a girl you realize that you don’t click with, then it dawns on you that you just spent £40 o £50 (I live in London, so the prices here don't help either)
Any good place you can recommend for cheap drinks or any 2 for 1 offers?
Thanks

I thought it was the norm to meet up the first time somewhere quite public and innocuous like a coffee shop?
How about skipping the pub/restaurant locations and finding a free exhibition on at a lovely museum, like the British Museum, where you can get a cheaper meal or snack in their cafe?
Or devise a lovely stroll along the Thames (say London Bridge through to the Embankment) dipping into Tate Modern or walking over to St Pauls, where there are lots of cheaper cafes or the foodmarket in Borough to buy lunch?0 -
I'm not sure first dates are the place to whipping out the 2for1 deals (I know I may get shouted down for this!).
Could you go on dates that are cheaper to start with? Coffee, early evening drinks, lunch, gallery etc?0 -
Cheapest bet is to make it a daytime date and go for a long walk around one of the parks/museums (make sure they are up for it first, It's no good if they haven't got appropriate footwear....)
I'd steer clear of 'cheap drinks' places. It'll make you look a bit ..... cheap!
And really, they are often not the sort of places I'd like to spend great amount of time, especially if I was trying to impress. Unless you like peeling the glass from the table each time you go for a swig....0 -

If you don't click with them, what do you have to lose by saying "shall we split the bill?"?
Anyway, as above,I'd say that meeting for coffee is a pretty cheap first date...just enough to establish if there's any point having a second.
....Or do you think they need the alcohol to improve your chances? :P0 -
I guess it depends what you like to do and also when you are going on dates.
My fav 1st date was to the Natural History Museum it was free and great fun, then again I am a 38yr old kid.0 -

How about (weather dependent, of course!) a walk and picnic through one of the Royal Parks?0

Definitely recommend a museum or art gallery or the like. Or cheap cultural things, which are cheaper than a meal usually.
Partly because it gives lots to talk about but need not be all consuming, chosen well, and because there is no risk of drinking too much, and walking around is often better than sitting at a table I think for an early date.
Free things on in the capital are plentiful and also get you enjoying the best of what it has to offer.0
