Buying a house - dishwasher broken and they will not repair

Hi,
I've exchanged contracts on a property and due to move at the end of the month.
I have just been informed that dishwasher which is integrated in the kitchen has broken and they are NOT going to repair it.
they have offered to leave it broken or remove it.
I have asked for it to be either repaired or removed and replaced with a cupboard as I do not want to be left with gap.
Can anyone advise on what my rights are?

Was it included in the sale and if so, was it working at the point of Exchange of contracts and/or described in the F&F list as working?0

How was the Dishwasher described on the property information forms - the ones issued by the Seller's solicitor, not the Estate Agent ones.0

When I bought my house there was a smashed patio door that was not damaged when I put the offer in. The owner charged the people who has been the tenants for the repair and blatantly said he'd keep the money but he wasn't repairing the glass. I could have lost the sale for the sake of £180 or just taken it on the chin. I accepted it and am very glad I did as the house is now worth 50% more than I paid for it a year ago.
Take from that what you will.0 -
How is it broken? Maybe it can be easily fixed.0

Everything depends on it's condition at exchange of contracts, if it was broken then, you are getting what you exchanged on and have no further rights to make any demands.0

Lets say for example the new dishwasher is £200.
The life expectancy of the dishwasher is 10 years, therefore £20 per year.
The current dishwasher is 6 years old, the loss of use is 4 years, the loss could be calculated as 4years x £20 = £80.
Calculate this to fit your situation, however as the seller I would offer you XYZ in relation to above, and you would need to find the rest yourself.
PS - If the fixtures and fittings don't say the condition, you have a dishwasher..it just does not work.0 -

You cannot have a new dishwasher, as this is "betterment"...
AO - Landlord..
OP is buying, totally different situation to a landlord, no such thing as betterment in this situation.
Was it working at exchange? If not, then you have no rights as you complete on what was there at exchange.I'm a Forum Ambassador on the housing, mortgages, student & coronavirus Boards, money saving boards.
